Executive Summary
This feasibility report examines which local sandwich shop on Fry Street offers the best
bargain for a University of North Texas student desiring an affordable meal. Because of
the many restaurants in proximity to the universitys campus, we have limited the scope
of our report to an Italian Sub Sandwich produced by 3 local sandwich shops.

University of North Texas students, undeniably, spend a lot of their time and money in
restaurants on Fry Street. Many students rely on these restaurants for meals on a daily
basis while at school. This feasibility report will provide a resource in determining the
best place for students to spend their limited funds. These restaurants were examined
under the following criteria.

order to receive the best overall value for their money.

Introduction
The University of North Texas has a large campus with a few food options. With only a few
options on campus many students look to off campus restaurants. These restaurants
receive a heavy amount of foot traffic due to their proximity to the campus. As many
students often fall under the struggling college student dynamic, it is important for
students to receive the best deals they can find.
Popular meals among college students are those that are simple and quick to make and are
good on the go. This description best describes a sandwich. Since a sandwich meets this
criteria we decided sandwich shops would be the basis of this report. Therefore, we chose
the 3 local sandwich restaurants:

Potbelly Sandwich Shop
Subway
In the report that follows, we examine these options and recommend the most cost
effective option that will provide the average student the best deal for their money.
Methods for Evaluating the Options
To support our recommendations, we evaluate the feasibility of each option using five
criteria:

To gather information for our evaluation, we visited the 3 popular sandwich shops on Fry
Street. Upon purchasing an Italian Sub Sandwich from each restaurant, we evaluated the
cost per sandwich, cost per meal, bread options, the availability for delivery options, and
nutrition information for those busy students. We provided the information criteria from
each sandwich shop and the feasibility of attending each restaurant for the price.

Results of the Evaluation
To determine the feasibility of eating at a local sandwich shop, we evaluated the three
restaurants according to the criteria of combination meal price, price to size ratio, bread
options, delivery options, and nutrition.
Price to Size Ratio
Jimmy Johns provides the best deal at $0.62 per inch. Potbellys is the most expensive
at $0.84 per inch
Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwiches
Jimmy Johns only offers 8 inch sub sandwiches. However, Jimmy Johns sandwich prices
vary between in store and delivery orders. An 8 inch Italian sub sandwich costs
approximately $4.99 in the store or $6.75 for delivery. The price per inch for an in store
order is approximately $0.62 per inch. The price per inch for a delivery order is $0.84 per
inch.
Potbelly Sandwich Shop
Potbellys offers a 6 inch regular sandwich and an 8 inch big sandwich. A 6 inch sandwich costs
$4.60 in store and the 8 inch costs $5.60. The price per inch is $0.76 for the regular sandwich
and $0.84 for the big sandwich. Delivery from Potbelly has a 10% fee and a $10 minimum on
orders.
Subway
Subway offers a 6 inch and foot long subs. Prices vary per sandwich and food options
that can be added. The price for a 6 inch subway Italian BMT is $4.87. The price per inch
for a 6 inch subway Italian BMT $0.81 per inch.

Potbellys, offers the best overall deal for an entire meal. Jimmy Johns is the most
expensive even with combination prices.
Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwiches
The Italian combination meal consists of (1) 8 inch sub sandwich, (1) medium fountain
drink, and (1) bag of chips. Combination meal prices are only offered for in store orders.
An 8 inch Italian Sub Sandwich combination meal, ordered in store, costs approximately
$8.48 after taxes. The sub sandwich costs $4.99, the medium fountain drink costs $1.49,
and the bag of chips costs $1.35; with a sales tax of $0.65. However, a delivery order for
the same meal costs approximately $11.26. In a delivery order, an 8 inch Italian sub
costs $6.75, the medium fountain drink costs $2.10, and a bag of chips cost $1.55; with a
sales tax of $0.85. The price difference for in store versus a delivery order increases
approximately 32.78%.
Potbelly Sandwich Shop
Potbellys does not offer combination meals. Sandwiches and sides are separately
priced. The Italian sandwich prices are $4.60 for the original size and $5.60 for big.
Potbellys offers a variety of sides to include: chips, salads, cookies, ice cream, and
pickles. Drinks are also sold separately. Chips cost $1.10, and drinks are $2.00.
Subway
Subway offers many choices for combos. The Italian BMT combo with a 30oz drink and
chips will cost $7.73. Chips and drinks cost $1.25 each. The combo also comes with a 12
or 16oz drink for $1.25 or $2.00 respectively, or you could purchase a bottle. The 30oz
would be better than buying a bottle.

Bread Options
Subway provides the largest variety of bread choices without price variation. Jimmy
Johns is the most expensive offering only 2 options with a price increase between bread
types.
Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwiches
Jimmy Johns only offers 2 types of bread for their subs. The shop offers French bread,
or 7-grain wheat for $1.00 more.
Potbelly Sandwich Shop
Potbellys offers white or multigrain wheat. Both are available in a normal or thin cut
version. Potbellys also offers a flatbread option.
Subway
Subway has five bread options: 6-grain, 9-grain, Italian, Italian herbs and cheese, and
flatbread
Delivery Options
Jimmy Johns offers the best delivery options, and will take delivery orders until 3 a.m.
Potbellys offers delivery options, but only offered during specific times.
Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwiches
Jimmy Johns offers extensive delivery options. A costumer can order their meal online
or via phone. Additionally, delivery orders arrive in a timely manner until 3 a.m.
Potbelly Sandwich Shop
Only available Mon Fri 10:30 am to 2:00 pm with a $10 minimum order and a 10% fee.
Subway
Subway doesnt offer delivery, requiring you to order in store.
Nutritional Information
Subway offers the lowest calorie count and Potbellys has the highest.
Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwiches
According to the nutritional information offered by Jimmy Johns, the Italian sandwich
contains 644 calories, but they do not state the amount of those calories are from fat.

Potbelly Sandwich Shop
According to the nutritional information offered by Potbelly, the Italian sandwich
contains 656 calories, 326 from fat.

According to the nutritional information offered by Subway, the Italian BMT sandwich
contains 410 calories, 150 from fat.


Conclusions
Each of the 3 options has advantages and disadvantages. Option 1 (Jimmy Johns) offers a
limited variety in bread options, but offers combination pricing and delivery options. However,
Jimmy Johns costs the most overall. Option 2 (Potbelly) offers the best deal overall, despite the
lack of combination meals. Even with the lack of combination prices, purchasing an entire meal
is the cheapest overall. Option 3 (Subway) offers the largest variety in bread choices, in addition
to being the healthiest calorie-wise. Based on our evaluation of the options in accordance with
the criteria, bread variety and calorie count are secondary issues. Therefore, the primary
concern of this report is the overall price of a meal.
Recommendations
Because Potbellys offers the best overall pricing for a meal, we recommend choosing Potbellys
for your daily lunches.
