ENGLISH MONTH CELEBRATION

In the DepEd Monthly Celebrations, the month of November is regarded as the English
Month. Public schools nationwide celebrate the month, most basically, in the same ways. They have
opening and closing programs, a parade and various competitions using the English language at
certain.

Like most schools, the Conalum Elementary School conducted an English Month
Culmination Program on the 29
th
of November. It was just an austere celebration participated by
the pupils themselves but the quintessence of using the English language was there.

The opening program started at two oclock in the afternoon with an opening prayer by a
Grade Six Pupil followed by the Singing of the Philippine National Anthem. Then, Mr. Virgilio P.
Pelicano, the school principal made a welcome greetings at the same time the formal opening of the
English Month Celebration for everyone. An intermission number from Aina Gale, a Grade Five
pupil, followed right before the introduction of the Board of Judges by Mrs. Brenda L. Lapasanda.

Then, came the competition proper. The categories contested at the primary level were solo
voice, poem recitation, modern dance and spelling bee. In the intermediate level, it was added with
headline writing and copy reading. After that, the proclamation of winners and giving of awards
followed. Enjoyment of the entire event was evident on the pupils faces as well as their active
participation in the program.

It was really an instructive and edifying event for the part of the pupils and the teachers as
well.
