Activity 1:
Reading p. 28 Roles in
Human Society
Recognizing Definitions
and Examples

Transition to #2: Now that
weve finished the reading
activity, lets move on to
review the grammar for the
unit test next week.
1.1 Pre-Stage:
T explains the terms and expressions
used for identifying the definitions and
examples in the text (red box)

1.2. During Stage:
Ss will circle the common terms in the
reading passage which indicate the
definitions and examples. T will
mention that using these expressions
to understand the definitions and
examples can be a strategy used for
reading. Then in pairs Ss will work on
Exercise 2 and write the definitions for

the six terms on the worksheet. Then,
Ss will get in groups of 3, 3, 4 and
summarize their assigned paragraph,
including the definitions and examples
.
1.3 Post-Stage:
Each group will read their summarized
paragraph to the class. Ss in other
groups will take notes for the other
paragraph sections in order to
complete the whole chart (jigsaw).
This could help Ss focus on the
important definitions and examples
included in each assigned paragraph.
Ss will exchange peer feedback and
explanations, and work on their
reading comprehension skills in an
interactive way.

Tangible Outcome & T. feedback/peer
feedback:

Activity 2:
Grammar review for the
unit test
Finding
similarity/differences in
meaning of 2 sentences

Transition to #3
Now that weve practiced
how to identify and explain
the similarity and difference
between sentences, lets try
to review our knowledge by
playing a game!
2.1 Pre-Stage:
Ss will work on the exercises in
textbook p. 23-24 to review in finding
the similarity or difference of meaning
between two pairs of sentences. This
will be good practice for the unit test.

2.2. During Stage:
Ss will solve the problems in pairs.
When there are discrepancies, T will
let the Ss discuss why the meanings
are the same or different. The pair of
students who get the answer correct
will explain their answer to Ss who got
it wrong (negotiation of meaning)

2.3 Post-Stage:
T will confirm the Ss understanding
about the tasks

Tangible Outcome & T. feedback/peer
feedback:
Ss will engage in peer correction and
feedback
Higher level Ss will help Ss who do not
understand the answer by explaining
their solutions to the problem step-by-

Materials:
reading activity worksheet, ppt slides, PPT for Jeopardy review game, handout for the
jeopardy review game

Anticipated Problems & Suggested Solutions:
Some activities might run a little longer if the students are actively communicating and
negotiating to establish understanding amongst themselves.

Contingency Plans (what you will do if you finish early, etc.):

Post-Lesson Reflections:
The SS seemed to enjoy the jeopardy game and that they get to review and reaffirm the
language materials that theyve learned in Unit 3. Also they discussed with their groups
member about the posed questions instead of defaulting to ask the teachers.
The reading activity and grammar review took longer than I thought- students were
engaged in discussing about the content of the reading (roles in society) and the
grammar exercises.
