You are to design and build a digital voltmeter, which can measure DC volts of upto 5V, in steps of 0.15V (approximately). Each Lab group should submit ONE project. You are NOT allowed to use a microcontroller or an Analog to Digital Converter IC for this project. Your circuit should have its own portable 5V power supply (which is stepped down from a 9V battery using appropriate components). Implement the circuit on a veroboard OR a PCB (components should be soldered to the board) and show the lab faculty a working demonstration of the final product. Remember that each of the group members will be asked questions about the operation of the whole system during the demonstration and graded accordingly. Useful Tips and Hints: There should be an Analog to Digital converter that will take as input the DC volts to be measured, convert it to a digital signal, and then display the voltage on a dot matrix display (including the decimal). There are several ways to implement this circuit- one of them includes op amps configured as comparators coupled with cascaded encoders. The probes for your voltmeter can be only wires. (jumper wires should be better) Use the 7805 Voltage regulator along with capacitors and resistors as required to step down the 9V from the battery to a fixed 5V supply. Where to get equipments/components: Ask the LTOs (or TSOs) of the Labs at the University for the components you need. They will provide you with the things provided you return them after the completion of the project. Buy your own breadboard, 9V battery and all the other components that you cannot find in the University. A good place to shop would be- www.techshopbd.com
