Anybody can export/ Import in India. One need not
be a manufacturer to export/import. Even a trader
can Export/ Import.. In fact the traders in India are
the biggest Exporters

Open a Company
It can be a Limited/ Pvt. Limited/
Proprietary company
Depending upon ones capacity to
invest, he can choose to open a
company befitting his financial status
The more he invests, the more the
loan he can get.

Get Registration for IEC number : It is
an acronym for Import/ Export code
number
This is issued by JOINT DGFT : who
is a commerce ministry official.
Depending on the state he lives, the
exporter can get his IEC registration
Without IEC, one can neither export nor
import in India. This is mandatory for
EXIM activity

Formalities
Name the company. It should be
preferably short in name, as it
becomes easier in remembering the
short names
Open a current account in bank. It
should be preferably a Nationalised
BANK, AS THEY HAVE MORE
BRANCHES ABROAD. Therefore,
transaction becomes faster

Registration with Central Excise : This
is necessary, because government is
losing collection of Excise duty on
export.
In order to have a control that the
material meant for exports have really
gone out of the country, Exporters are
required to fill in ARE1 form.
This can be done only after getting
excise registration.

Registration with Sales Tax :This is
necessary as in the case with Excise
department.
At the end of the financial year, exporter
has to show the documents to sales tax
department to avail of tax free exports.

RCMC : Registration cum
membership certificate. This is issued
by the respective export promotion
council or the commodity boards`
Government has formed Export
promotion councils and Commodity
boards to help exports in India

Identity card : This is issued by
commissioner of customs of the
gateway port.
Normally this is required for exports by
Air

like FAX, Phones, E-Mail facilities
