Two-by-Two Bookmark

Designed by Jon Yusoff 2010



This bookmark is made in two parts. The first part is the centre shown in green in the
chart, and the second part is the outer round, shown in yellow.



























Round 1
Requires two shuttles wound CTM
Start with any shuttle, RA(4-4-4-4), reverse work (rw).
Switch shuttle (SS), RB(4-4-4-4), rw.
(*)C(5), rw.
RC(4+[to last picot of previous ring]4-4-4), rw
SS, RD(4+[to picot of adj ring]4-4-4), rw
C(5), rw
RE(4+[to picot of adj ring]4-4-4), rw.
SS, RF(4+[to picot of adj ring]4-4-4), rw
Repeat from (*) until the length required, cut off the thread and hinde ends.
The finished pairs of rings (with top and bottom rings together counted as one pair)
must be in multiples of three plus two additional pairs.
For example, (2x3) + 2 = 8 pairs, or for the tatted sample shown, (7x3) + 2 = 23 pairs
Round 2
Requires shuttle and ball thread CTM
(#)R(5+[to picot of first ring of Rd 1]2-3), do not reverse (dnr).
R(3+[to picot of previous ring]2+[to picot of next ring of Rd 1]5), rw.
C(2-2-2-2-2-2), rw.
R(3-3+[to picot of next ring of Rd1]3-3), rw.
C(2-2-2-2-2-2), rw.
Repeat from (#), joining to the next ring of Rd 1.
When you have reached the past pair of rings of Rd 1, make
R(5+[to picot of first ring of Rd 1]2-3), do not reverse (dnr).
R(3+[to picot of previous ring]2+[to picot of next ring of Rd 1]5), rw.
Then C(2-2-2-2-2-2-2) (6 picots sep by 2 ds), rw.
R(5+[to picot of last ring of Rd 1 joined earlier]5), rw.
C(2-2-2-2), rw.
R(3-3+[to the side picot of the last ring of Rd1]3-3), rw.
C(2-2-2-2), rw
R(3+[to picot or previous ring]3[+to side picot of the first ring on opposite side in
Rd1]3-3), rw.
Repeat in reverse to finish the other side of the bookmark until you have made the joins
to the pair of rings at the other end. Then reverse work.
C(2-2-2-2-2-2+[lock join to picot joined earlier]2-2-2

+[lock join to picot of next ring]2-2-2

Cut off thread, tie to the ring at the beginning, and hide ends.
