Format of the assessment
Candidates are required to:
use specific information and / or case studies to illustrate their answers
use any combination of text, graphs, diagrams, maps, or annotated sketches that might be appropriate
demonstrate their knowledge of important geographic concepts.

Equipment to bring
Candidates are advised to bring coloured pencils, a calculator, and a ruler.
Candidates should use coloured pencils in their diagrams / maps. Annotations on these diagrams / maps
must be in pen. Any written work done in pencil will not be eligible for reconsideration.



Specific information for individual external achievement standards
Standard 91007
Title Demonstrate geographic understanding of environments that have
been shaped by extreme natural event(s)
Version 2
Number of Credits 4
Format of the assessment
Candidates will be required to refer to a specific case study (or studies) which should make reference to:
different environments that have been affected by one type of extreme natural event, OR
different places within an environment that are affected by a single extreme natural event.

Standard 91008
Title Demonstrate geographic understanding of population concepts
Version 2
Number of Credits 4
Format of the assessment
Candidates will be required to demonstrate knowledge of population concepts in specific countries and
/ or regions that they have studied.
Supporting case study evidence may come from one country, regions within a country, or from
different countries.

Standard 91010
Title Apply concepts and basic geographic skills to demonstrate
understanding of a given environment
Version 1
Number of Credits 4
Format of the assessment
The examination will consist of activities and questions based on a range of geographic resources
provided in a separate resource booklet and will assess a range of skills and concepts.
Candidates will be required to apply concepts and basic skills using the specific resources provided.
In 2014, the geographic environment will be a New Zealand setting.
Candidates will be required to demonstrate understanding of the given environment in terms of natural
and cultural resources and will be required to apply the M!ori concept of Taonga in a specific
geographic context. Refer to the Teaching and Learning Guide for Geography and the Glossary of
M!ori concepts, for more information on the geography skills and concepts.
