1. National Educational Technology Standards For Students
Target Population: Kindergarten through Sixth Grade
Subject Area: Technology

i. This website is known as International Society for Technology in Education.
This organization believes that technology can be used in the classroom. This
association believes that using technology as an educational tool is a way to
increase academic achievement. Also, using technology in the classroom is seen
to better teaching strategies and/or instruction.

Why The Skills Are Worth Learning: The skills related to technology are important for
students to learn due to the technological world that we live in. Everywhere a student
goes; there is some form of technology being used. It is important for students to
become familiar with technology in order for them to succeed outside of the classroom.
By using technology, students will gain new knowledge relating to real life skills, while
also being able to learn how to problem solve and think critically. Also, using technology
will open up doors for student success. They will be able to use the technology to obtain
new knowledge or explore their interests. Introducing students to technology at an early
age will benefit them in the future with internet safety as well. Lastly, technology allows
students to be creative in their ideas and with the implementation of their ideas.

Sample Outcomes
i. Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring
explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers
ii. Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text,
distinguishing literal from nonliteral language
iii. Use dialogue and descriptions of actions, thoughts, and feelings to develop
experiences and events or show the response of characters to situations
iv. Interpret products of whole numbers
v. Based on rigorous content and the application of knowledge through higher-
order thinking skills

Why The Skills Are Worth Learning: These real life skills are worth learning because
they will benefit each student as they mature and step into the real world. Also, these
life skills are used daily. Having a strong base knowledge of the life-long skills will benefit
the students during daily routines and activities.

3. Virginia Department Of Education

Subject Area: History/Social Studies

i. The student will develop map skills by locating the United States, China and

iv. The student will explain the responsibilities of a good citizen with emphasis on

Why The Skills Are Worth Learning: These history and social studies skills are essential
for children to know because as a society, we have developed immensely. It is important
for students to know where they come from and how they got where they are now.
Also, knowing different parts of the world allows the students to become diverse.
Understanding diversity is important for students, especially in this generation because
the United States is a melting pot or races and ethnicities.
