7 Things Students Want to Know

1. Am I in the right place?

a. To helps students with this question I will have my name written out on the board with
the subject of instruction. I will also stand by the door to greet students as they make
their way into the classroom or need help getting direction. Attendence will be one of
the very first things done on the first day of school to ensure that I have all the students
I am supposed to and to check on any other students who may not be on my attendance
sheet.
2. Where am I supposed to sit?
a. To help get the names of the students I will assign seats according to last name. For the
older students, their names will already be on the desk as they come into the room so
they can find their seats. For the younger students we will do an activity to create the
name tabs and then place the kids in alphabetical order.
3. What are the rules in the classroom?
a. The rules will always be posted every day in a stationary place for reference whenever a
child is unsure of appropriate behavior. Along with showcasing the rules, I will follow
the 3=33 rule of reviewing the rules every day for the first three weeks of school in
attempts to help the children familiarize themselves with what is to be expected of
them and the possible consequences of their actions.
4. What will I be doing this year?
a. The procedures for classroom rules and consequences are the same for daily
procedures. All procedures will be conducted repeatedly so that students become
familiar with them and are second nature. Some of those procedures would be first
entering the room, preparing for the end of day, lining up for a walk in the hall etc.
5. How will I be graded?
a. Grading will be done with quizzes, test, and direct observation. Assessment will be
based on the needs of the student and the severity of the disability if applicable. A
sliding scale or curve will not be used.
6. Who is the teacher as a person?
a. In order for the students to learn about me I will participate in the icebreakers and
morning news sessions as my students will to help them get to know me as I get to
know them. As for the parents, my website will have a variety of information about my
background and my goals both personally and professionally as it applies to their
children.
7. Will the teacher treat me as a human being?
a. I am a firm believer of treat those how you want to be treated and regardless of age,
gender or creed every person who steps in my class will be treated with respect. As I
have elementary aged children, I will treat my students as I would want their teachers to
treat them.
