PAIN CHAMPIONS MINUTES

Purpose: To provide leadership, education, and quality improvement initiatives related to pain management to
all University of Colorado Hospital staff (inpatient and outpatient) through the evidence-based
practice process.

Introductions All members were introduced

Audit Updates Janna presented audit results. One unit below70%. Discussed having
champions do more of the audit data due to the time it takes to tally all
results.All units above 70% compliance will only have to complete
every quarter.There is a possibility that we may be able to have a
report run thru EPIC. More to come on this.

Empirical Evidence
Pain Study Regina has recited some pain study sheets. She is willing to train more
on the process.The currents results of the study will be presented on a
poster at the Research symposium in March
Contact Regina if you want to be
trained on doing surveys on your
unit

Patient Brochure Aurora Davis has been working on a patient brochure for the RN to
use on admission to each unit in discussing pain. She has received
feedback and will be taking to the patient education committee in
March.Will need to be transcribed into Spainish
The sheet will be brought back
to the pain champions for
rollout.

Comfort Function Goal Rob let the group know that the previous pain goal in Epic charting
will be changed to Comfort Functions goal.This will take place
onApril 22
nd
.A tip sheet will be sent out.
Champions will be asked to
work with educators on rolling

Ideas for Patient Satisfaction Group brainstormed ways to increase patient satisfaction for pain
management. Ideas were setting expectations, pain care plan, and pain
menu on white board, use ofpermission t pause to discuss pain.
Request to have Amy Seale come and discuss some scripting in talking
to patients
