Individual Writing Objectives: The main purpose of this assignment is for students to create a
documentary about what its like to be a student in their own high school. They will take personal
experiences and create history by filming, writing, and discussing how high school students interact
within that specific community.
In relation to the course description: The assignment is designed to crystallize students knowledge
about how different opinions and perceptions about a single community can be subjunctive based on
knowledge and expertise.
Class Activities: This assignment will be done over a 2 week period. The actual steps taken to complete
the assignment will mainly be done outside of class. The students should already know how subjunctive
documentary works by this point.
Day 1: The students will begin documenting their everyday experiences at school by keeping a
diary, taking photos, and filming events.
Day 2: The students will continue to document their experiences as high school students.
Day 3: The students will organize their documentation either using a blog or Microsoft
PowerPoint (for those who do not have internet access at home).
Day 4: Students presentations will begin and continue until all have had a chance to present.
Students should present a creative and concise blog or PowerPoint that illustrates what it means
to be a high school student. They will create these ideas based off of personal experiences.
Equipment needed: Students will be permitted to use personal cell phones for recording devices,
notebooks and school computers to complete this assignment.
This assignment will illustrate to the students why subjunctive framing takes place based on different
personal experiences. These documentaries will also provide students with a hidden curriculum that
teaches diversity and acceptance. Students will be able to fully understand that everyone comes from
different walks of life and deals with different issues in their personal lives.
