TEKS LESSON PLAN (with Technology-Power Point Presentation)

1. TEKS Cosmetology 130.251 ( c ) ( 1 ) (A )
Objectives:
Students will be able to identify a minimum of 12 types of jobs the Cosmetology profession has to offer
with a 70% competency upon completion of this unit of study.
2. Big Understanding:
Students will be able to successfully secure the type of employment that will enable them to make an
abundant living and still love their job when they are ready to retire.
3. Assessment Evidence:
Each of you have joined Cosmetology for your reason. Many times we change our minds because we
didnt realize all that this profession has to offer or where all it could take us-from little town shops to
media stylists, funeral parlors to cruise ships. Using the Milady text book, brochures, pamphlets, and the
internet, you will create a cart identifying a minimum of 12 job types related to Cosmetology, their
descriptions and the pros and cons of each job. As a class you will share and discuss your discoveries.
You will then choose the job that interests you most and write a one page report on what the job in tells,
why you chose it, and where it will take you in life. Is it the same reason you joined Cosmetology? Be
prepared to give the report to the class. The group that lists the most job types will get to decorate the
bulletin board.
4. Opening Hook;
Moving from school to making money will be a welcoming transition . Prior, we went over the timeline
of Cosmetology which dated back to the Egyptians in 3000 BC. Knowing our profession is one of the
oldest, and will always be around, gives us the reassurance of knowing we will always have a job.
5. Instructional Strategies/Activities:
