Carlisle City v Frizington White Star Monday 29th June

City went into this game on a high after a tremendous result the previous week against
previous champions Grasslot.

With Frizington having already beaten City away this season, City knew they were in
for a good game.Added to the fact that with games in hand Frizington would go top if
they won these outstanding fixtures.

City started well and were soon putting Frizington under pressure, but with the
importance of the game in mind it looked like they had brought a decent side through
and their midfield and defenders looked well organised.

However City continued to press and within the first 15 mins had two good chances to
go ahead firstly through Pilkington and then Jenks but on both occasions their keeper
made great saves.

This was to be the pattern for the rest of the half with City dominating and Frizington
playing on the break.

It was no surprise that Frizington’s keeper was their star man at half time as he had
came to their rescue on at least 5 occasions, to keep them in the game.HT0-0

With Frizington’s tactics, to try and pinch something on the break ,the onus fell on
City to capitalise on their domination and convert their chances.
Once again their keeeper was the mainstay of their defence as he continued to
frustrate City with saves from Walsh and Graham.

On 60 mins however City did break through when Bootsies flighted cross was headed
back across the keeper by Graham to give City a deserved lead.1-0
City pressed for a second and this came after 70 mins when good interplay between
Jenks and Graham sent Jenks away and he duly hammered the ball past the keeper
into the top corner giving City a 2-0 lead.

With Frizington looking a bit weary City kept possession well. However with the final
whistle approaching Frizington pinched a consolation goal when their freekick floated
over everyone for one of their midfielders to head home at the back post.2-1 FT.
This result now puts the ball back into City’s court, and if we can win all remaining
games we would retain the league, but with the way the first half of the season’s gone
we are not holding our breathl
