Antenatal Management

REGISTRATION
Patient Bio data
Patient will be given antenatal booklet:
Records pregnancy history including antenatal
checkups and appointments.
Pay RM5 registration fee (Malaysia government
hospital)

PRECONCEPTION CARE
1. History
Medical and surgical history.
Current medication
Immmunization.
2. Physical exam
General exam
Height
Weight
Body mass index (BMI)

3. Diagnostic testing
Genetic screening
STD screening

4. Education and counseling
Weight control
Exercise
Control of any medical
condition

5. Vitamins and
immunizations
Vitamin C, B complex and
Folic acid.
Update immunizations.
FREQUENCY OF ANTENATAL VISITS
Every month during the first 6 months.
Every 2 weeks during the 7th and 8th
months.
Every week during the last month.
More frequent visits are indicated in high
risk pregnancy.

FIRST TRIMESTER
(week 1-week 12)
HISTORY
Ask the patient about any complaint.
Complete history include pregnancy and genetic history.
The previous obstetric history, ex: Miscarriages,
The present obstetric history.
A medical history.
HIV status.
History of medication and allergies.
Surgical history.
Family medical history.
PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT
Height and weight.
Blood pressure.
Pelvic exam.
Fetal heart tones (FHTs).
Uterine size.
Breast examination
Oedema
Abdominal examination.
Palpation to check your baby's position, size and development

Then estimated due date (EDD) will be calculated based on LMP.

DIAGNOSTIC TEST
Blood Test blood group, RH factor, hemoglobin
level, any infections including HIV, syphilis and
hepatitis B.
Urine test to check for protein and glucose level
STD screening.
Ultrasound scans.
Pap smear, if needed.
Genetic screening based on history.
Maternity dental checkup The hormone
progesterone softens the gums and increases the
blood supply to them. The build-up of plaque,
which coats your teeth between cleaning, also
make gums more prone to bleeding.
