Course Goal: To provide students with the resources and knowledge to enable them to experience
practical applications of word processing, spreadsheets and graphs, presentations, digital storytelling,
website design, research and safe and ethical uses of the Internet.

Business & Technology Department Big Ideas: The following are the big ideas that the Business

Computer and Technology Applications Enduring Understandings and Essential Questions: The
following are what give meaning and relevance to this course; they define what we hope to
accomplish. They will engage us in the curriculum and ensure we derive a deeper understanding of the
topics.

Essential Questions:
1. How does knowledge of system components enhance your use of computer software?
2. What features of a word processing tool can enhance your document and be a more efficient
use of your time?
3. What is the best use of text, pictures, sound, and narration to convey information in a digital
format?
4. When doing research, what constitutes a reliable source?
5. How does the history of technology help us to understand where technology is headed in the
future?
6. How is Microsoft Office relevant to everyday life in higher education or a work environment?
7. How can you have access to your files and programs from any computer?
8. How can you protect yourself from harm while using technology?

Technology I

Enduring Understandings:
1. Cloud computing is a way to store data and access programs via the web.
2. Effective design can enhance the message being presented.
3. Copyright laws apply to items on the Internet, too.
4. Students will understand that not every source is reputable when doing research.
5. Technology has evolved greatly over time.
6. Websites can be used to communicate information in a timely and organized manner.
7. Keep information private and dont post anything personal online.
8. Technology tools are used to present information in a formal and professional manner.

Materials:

Supplies:
2 GB or higher Flash Drive

Evaluation:
Students grades will be derived from daily assignments/participation, projects, tests and semester
exams.

Daily assignments - assignments will be evaluated based on the quality and understanding of
the concept.

Tests/Quizzes- Tests will be announced in advance.

Projects usually one project per unit. Due dates will be announced and can be checked on
the teachers website.

Semester Exam- There will be a cumulative semester final which will carry the weight of 25%
of the semester grade.

Academic Integrity:
No use in any form of another students work will be tolerated. Cheating will result in a grade of zero
and a detention will be issued. Parents and the Assistant Principal will be notified. Cheating could
lead to a school suspension or dismissal.

Absences:
If you are absent and the absence is excused, missed work may be made-up. It is the responsibility of
the student to check Edmodo for missed work. You are responsible for finding out what you missed
before the next class. If a test is missed, you are responsible for making arrangements with the
teacher to make up the test outside the normal class period (either during study, before school or after
school.) If the absence is unexcused, work may not be made-up.

Classroom Guidelines:
1. Bring all materials to each class and be seated when the bell rings.
2. Complete all work well and in a reasonable amount of time
3. Demonstrate common courtesies to the teacher and other students
4. Follow all guidelines and policies in the Student Handbook.
5. Only leave the classroom in emergency situations and with a written pass
6. Participate and ask questions. Please raise your hand and address the teacher in an appropriate
manner.
7. Verified physical, emotional, and learning disabilities will be accommodated.

Computer Lab Guidelines:

1. Food is not permitted in the lab. This includes gum. If you need to have cough drops, please
inform the teacher at the beginning of class. You may have your school approved water bottle,
but it may not be on the computer table.
2. Changing the desktop settings, even if you plan to change them back, it is not acceptable.
These are not your personal computers. (This includes but not restricted to moving/creating
new desktop icons, changing the wallpaper, or screensaver.)
3. Downloading anything from the Internet or completing updates without permission is not
acceptable.
4. Inform the teacher if using the Internet outside of a classroom assignment. Accessing
inappropriate websites is not permitted.
5. Vandalizing a computer, table, other equipment, or materials is never acceptable. Please take
care of equipment.

iPad Guidelines:

1. iPads are only to be used when given permission by Mrs. Glaser. You will be using both
laptops and iPads in this class.
2. Use relevant educational apps only.
3. No photos or videos may be taken of teacher or classmates without explicit permission. All
photos and videos taken in class must be relevant to class work.
4. No food or drink in the same area as iPads.
5. As the year continues, more guidelines may be added by Mrs. Glaser as needed.
Important***Violations of classroom or lab guidelines will result in conversations with the
student, parent, and/or administrator. Serious or continued violations will result in either
detention and/or loss of technology privileges.
