Later on we started to do a blog about the book, where we would write about the chapter, paragraph or quote we just read and submit it to Mrs. Camilo through the website we would blog on. Next, we started making story maps which showed the journey in Esperanza Rising using pictures and captions. Also we are learning unfamiliar words used in the text, and even some in Spanish, like uvas or melones! As we read Esperanza Rising we are learning more about Mexican culture, life and traditions! By Ella and Sophie Friday March 28: ICE SKATING AT WESTCHESTER ACADAEMY: Bus leaves at the Municipal Building 6:30 and returns at 10:40. Fee: $14.00 (Includes Rentals). By Rhea, Emma C, Penelope 3/3 This week, in math, our class learned about fractions. We learned how to convert, add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators, convert from fraction to decimal, and decimal to percent. We also learned about mixed numbers and improper fractions. We were taught about converting a mixed number to an improper fraction, and back again too. Our class also started math March Madness. Each student that competes gets a bracket. The competing students get a sprint sheet each night to complete. If completed, the student gets a sticker to put on their bracket. To move on to the next round, the student has to collect about four stickers a week. If you dont turn in or dont complete the sprint sheet, you are eliminated from the competition. You can also drop out at any time. This week in science, our class started learning about structures. We started to build a model bridge using tooth picks, popsicle sticks, marshmallows, and any other supplies students volunteered to bring in. we will work on this for another week or two and then, we will have a competition to see whos bridge in the strongest! Math and Sci ence News Ca mi l o Ne ws - R o o m 2 0 5 3/10 This week in math, our class is continuing to learn about fractions, converting, decimals, and mixed numbers. But, we also started to learn new things too. Such as the tape diagram and multiplying fractions in standard form. We use the tape diagram to solve problems that include multiplying, dividing, adding, and subtracting with fractions. The class also started to take a closer look at simplifying fractions. Simplifying is very important. When you simplify a fraction, you divide your numerator and your denominator by the same number to get a reduced fraction .We are also continuing March Madness this week. Remember, students can drop out of the competition anytime they want. But, once you drop out, you are out. There is no coming back into the competition. This week in science, our class is still working on our model bridges. Weve seen a lot of improvement in the past couple of days. Groups have been working very well and have made a lot progress. We have also been reflecting on the human impact unit. The packet is about reflecting on our glacier project. Each group has put on an incredible performance for their government project. Many made raps songs, videos and websites. Advi s or y ~Teamwork ~ Communi ty Homework Brennan Homeroom: Letter to Abuelita Packet Practice vocabulary words for quiz on 3-14
Ca mi l o Ne ws - R o o m 2 0 5 They clearly looked like they had a good time, and next time I hope we have great groups like this. Also they have been doing a great job on writing and editing the newsletter. Many went to the Mardi Gras party to raise money for a little girl (Ouleye) to go to Pre- school for a year. It was organized by the French Club. Got Food is a group of people encouraging you to donate food to the food bank. An anonymous donor will donate a dollar for every can donated. If we donate 250 cans, we will get a dress as your favorite super hero day. We think the entire school community is waiting for spring to come and by the time you are reading this, it is soon! Eat a healthy breakfast and get your books out! Our Advisory topic has been OPTIMISM. By Maria and Charlie Camilo Homeroom: Math Packet Math March Madness
