Course Description English II is an exciting and engaging course that further develops the skills taught in English I in connection with literature and writing. Students will read and analyze both fiction and nonfiction texts, practice writing using proper conventions and grammar for various purposes and audiences, conduct research and synthesize their findings, acquire and use content specific vocabulary, and engage in both speaking and listening in multiple contexts.
Behavior Guidelines Be respectful: Students are expected to treat their classmates, teacher, and classroom furnishings with respect. Be responsible: Students are expected to come to class on time with necessary materials and assignments. Work hard: Students are expected complete all assignments on time, completely, and with their best effort.

Required Materials The following materials must be brought to class every day: Planner 3-ring binder-Please have the following sections: Sentence Structure, Literature, Essays, Research, Vocabulary. Notebook (can be a part of the binder) A pencil and pen (blue or black ink only, please) Outside reading book(when assigned) Required texts
Required texts will be provided and must be brought to class everyday. These books will individually checked out, and each student is responsible for his or her book. Class books must be returned in good condition; if the book is not returned or is returned damaged, the student will be responsible for paying for the book.
Class Information In addition to assigned reading, students are expected to read 200 pages of outside reading per quarter. Students may choose any book that they wish to read for this requirement. Please refer to outside reading requirement document. Our class will use Edmodo, so be sure to check it regularly. Late homework will receive a zero. Long term assignments (such as large projects or papers) will receive a 10% reduction for every DAY (not class period) that they are late. Students will receive two homework passes per semester. This pass allows the student to turn the assignment in one class period late without penalty.
Academic Honesty Cheating or plagiarism of any kind will not be tolerated. Any student caught cheating will receive a zero on the assignment and will be referred to his or her dean. Please see the student handbook for a more complete definition of cheating and plagiarism and consequences.
Grades Grades will be updated weekly. Students are welcome to see me before school, during lunch, or after school to discuss assignments and grades. Please email me with any questions or concerns about your students grade.
Grading Scale: A 90-100% B 80-89% C 70-79% D 60-69% F 59% and below
