I am beyond excited to embark on this 2014-2015 school year journey with you and your
families! This class will be filed with lots of problem solving, numbers, learning, and
laughing. Throughout the year you will learn many new mathematical concepts, but more
importantly you will learn how to be an excellent and persistent math student!

Grading Policy
Grades will be given for the following work and will be weighted in the following manner:
Category Weight
Homework (4 points each) 15%
Classwork (in-class assignments and welcome checks) 30%
Assessments (Tests/Quizzes) 55%

Grades will be calculated on a percentage basis (number of points earned divided by the
total number of points possible) and awarded according to the following scale:

90%-100% A
80%-89% B
70%-79% C
60%-69% D
below 60% E

Homework Policy
Homework will be assigned almost every night and will be posted/updated on my
website every afternoon as well as posted on the board in the back of the classroom.
When your child is completing homework from the textbook, they must be copied
from the book, work must be shown, and all word problems must have labeled
answers.
Homework is worth 4 points each.
o FULL Credit (4 points) will be given as long as an effort was made to attempt
EVERY problem. NO question should be left blank! The assignment should be
neatly written, IN PENCIL and all appropriate work must be shown
o PARTIAL Credit will be given based on the quality and quantity of the work
shown.
Late homework is not accepted unless your child has an EXCUSED absence from
class OR uses a homework pass. (They only have 4 for the entire year!)
If your child is absent from class on the day the homework or assignment is collected
or checked in class, it is his or her responsibility to hand in the assignment the next
time he or she is in class.
Students are responsible for completing their homework, checking their work, making
corrections, and keeping it in their notebook.
WElCOMES (Warm-Ups)
When the bell rings, students are expected to be in their seat, have their homework
out on their desk, and begin working on the welcome assignment.
All welcomes should be dated and kept as part of class notes in their notebook.
Twice a quarter students will have a Welcome Check where they will be asked
questions pertaining to their welcome assignments. This is meant as a way to
encourage students to keep their welcomes throughout the year and to maintain an
organized binder.
o I will keep a copy of ALL completed welcomes in a binder where students can
retrieve a copy if they were absent.

TESTS & QUIZZES and GRADED CLASSWORK
I will try to announce tests/quizzes a week in advance; however, there may be
unannounced exit tickets and graded classworks. Students do need to study and
practice for tests and quizzes. Please encourage this at home.
If students are absent on the day of a test or quiz they will be asked to make it up
the next day they return to class.
Some of our classwork is graded. In most cases your child will earn full credit for
completion; however, partial credit will be given if he or she did not complete all that
was expected. Graded classwork must be made up when your child is absent. He/she
can do this during 8th period on Wednesdays or before and/or after school with an
appointment. A zero for the assignment is issued until the classwork is made up.

EXPECTATIONS
I expect students to conduct themselves in a manner that enhances a learning
environment. Any behavior that violates another students right to learn or my
responsibility to teach will not be tolerated.
Textbooks will be distributed during the first week of school and will be kept at
home.
Use PENCIL ONLY on all graded work (homework, graded classworks, quizzes, tests,
and welcome checks).
The teacher, not the bell, dismisses class.
RESPECT yourself, the room, and others.

I feel communication is extremely important between home and school. Please call or e-mail
if you have any questions or concerns. I ask that all communication be completed through
students legal guardian(s).
I am committed to keeping my website up to date with important information, upcoming
quizzes and test, and homework assignments. I will also do my best to input and post grades
on Aspen as often as possible!

ITS A GREAT YEAR TO HAVE A GREAT YEAR!
