What is ELAR?
At the root, ELAR is a course that combines
the following elements: English, Language
Arts, & Reading.

The goal of the middle school language arts
curriculum is to develop, strengthen, and
broaden a students understanding and use of
language in its many forms reading, writing,
viewing, speaking, and listening. These forms
of language are fused to produce an
integrated program. Our goal is to assist
students in becoming increasingly more
effective and appreciative receivers and users
of language.

Students are provided direct instruction,
modeling, practice, and application of the
purposes and forms of writing for a variety of
audiences. As students read and respond to
various genres such as short stories, novels,
poetry, drama, and also nonfiction selections,
they grow in their appreciation and
understanding of literature and of themselves.

What do I need?
Every student needs to bring:

" Composite or spiral notebook
" Folder or binder for assignments
" A great attitude and willingness to
learn !
" School issued iPad

In Person follow tutorial schedule or set
up an appointment to meet
Grades
Students will receive a minimum of 9 minor
(daily) and 3 major (tests, projects,
assessments) grades per grading period.
We will follow the school wide late work and
retake policy. If a student wishes to retake
a test or re-do a major assignment that they
scored below a 70 on they must schedule a
time to come in for tutorials prior to coming
in for a re-take or re-do. Students must plan
a time with the teacher to retake a test and
not schedule this on the day they wish to
complete the assignment, this is for the best
interest of the student to make sure they
understand the content and expectations of
the assignment in order to be successful.
