Language Arts
Our class will be reading Sadako and the
Thousand Paper Cranes throughout the unit. We
will be using this text and other texts to understand
how characters change throughout a story and
how to determine the theme. The students will use
this story as a way to understand how people
come together during hard times to support one
another. As a class, we will be using technology to
share how we can make a difference in our world
by working together.

Essential Questions
We will be developing an understanding of many different essential
questions. Take a look at some of the essential questions that we
will be focusing on throughout our Unit 1 Inquiry.
Language Arts
-How do I use evidence to support how characters have changed over
time.
-How do I determine the theme while reading texts and identify common
themes across texts?
-What is my purpose of writing and who is my intended audience?
-What strategies can I use to organize my writing into sequential
events?
Science/Social Studies
-How can people from different cultures Seek First to Understand one
another to collaborate and solve problems?
-How can events, both physically and culturally, cause people to change
their lives?
-How do rocks reflect Earths history?
-How does the Earths surface change over time and how does that
affect its people?
Technology
-How can I use Apps to share my thinking and learning with others?
