Good morning students of the senior school.

As most of you know, an

incident occurred 2 weeks ago on the 12
th
of October. I broke a core
school rule that afternoon when I purchased alcohol in my school
uniform.
I see now that parents send their kids to Redlands for a reason. The
College is a well-known school that upholds Christian values and by
doing what I did, I tarnished the name of a well-respected school. I now
know that parents send their kids to Redlands College, with the thought
in mind that they will be given the opportunity to learn to the best of their
ability and that they will be able to grow in a positive atmosphere. They
send their kids here to shelter them from such substances as tobacco,
alcohol and drugs, and by breaking the school rules I have broken this
trust that I owe to the school. In doing so, I also sent a negative image of
the school to anyone observing me, giving my actions the potential to
bring unhelpful negative attention to the school in our community.
We as seniors are seen by younger kids as role models to be looked up
to and to set a good example. Its our job to shelter younger children
from the negative and detrimental effects that alcohol and other
substances can have on the lives of people. Whilst we ourselves know
the harm these substances can cause, younger children have not had
the experience to form their own opinions and it is our responsibility to
guide and protect them until they are able to make educated decisions of
their own.
I see now that my actions that afternoon contradicted our role as senior
students and role models to the younger students. I now realise that I
broke a vital part of the schools ethos by not supporting the protective
environment expected by the school community and I wish to offer my
sincere apology.
Whilst many of you may see this as a joke, it should be noted that we as
seniors play an important role in influencing others. What we say and do
affects how others perceive us as a cohort, as well as how they perceive
the school, and we therefore must take our responsibilities seriously.
Redlands College had no obligation what-so-ever to grant me
readmission to the school and this generous act came only from the
grace they gave me. For that I wish to sincerely thank them. Lastly I just
wish to apologise again for the detrimental effect I caused, and I hope
that we can move past it as we work towards finishing Year 12 in
another 4 weeks.
