PAYMENT
Please forward payment of R2 500.00 for the Journey as soon as possible. This amount includes transport to the
camp venue, accommodation, meals, a hard-shell jacket, fleece and buff plus the provision of facilitators.

TABLE MOUNTAIN OVERNIGHT TRAINING HIKE/S
You are reminded that these hike/s will take place during the September holidays. The intention of the
overnight hike/s is to cover all aspects related to preparation for The Journey at the end of November.
There are no costs involved for this training hike.

This is the ONLY training hike session provided for the boys.
It is highly recommended that your son attend this training hike on the designated day as listed below -
it is an important opportunity for boys to meet their guides, check equipment and assess fitness levels.
Please take note of the date of your sons hike as the hut can only accommodate the exact number of
people for which it has been booked.
If your son is NOT able to attend as part of his group (for a valid reason) on the designated date listed
below we will make arrangements for him to fit in with another group.

ROUTE
Groups will be ascending via Kasteelspoort (Camps Bay side) and descending via Nursery Ravine
(Kirstenbosch Gardens side) at midday after spending the night in the Scout Hut on the back table. This
beginner route is suitable for all hiking capabilities and fitness levels. You will need to meet your group at
Theresa Avenue Jeep Trail in Camps Bay at 15:30 on the day of your trip and head up together. A map has
been attached so you can find your way to the start of the hike. A suggestion is that you meet at RBHS and
head through together to make it easier for parents transporting boys.



GEAR FOR OVERNIGHT TRIP
Please ensure that your son has the necessary gear needed for this trip, and secondly that he packs as lightly
as possible.

Decent shoes which have been worn in already (takkies are more than suitable)
Hiking pack which can hold everything comfortably on the inside (nothing to be strapped on the outside)
Sleeping bag
2l water carrier
Headtorch
R30 to exit Kirstenbosch Gardens (not always necessary, but may be asked for upon exit).
Rainjacket and jersey
One change of clothes
Hat and sunscreen
Cutlery and crockery (knife, fork, spoon, plate, bowl, cup)
Toiletries
Personal medication

FOOD ARRANGEMENTS
The suggestion is that the boys get together with their group and decide on food and arrange this amongst
themselves (who will bring what for the evening meal, breakfast and lunch).* Boys must bring their own snacks
but please limit this.

overnight hike with fellow learners under the control and guidance of staff contracted for the Journey and / or
volunteers.

The Overnight hike requires that it uses outdoor adventure to facilitate its objectives, and all concerned
(parents, learners, staff, volunteers) should understand and acknowledge that there are potential risks whether
activities are guided and facilitated or not.
