In this course, we will be participating in a variety of fitness activities designed to improve personal fitness some examples of which are: weight training, hill and stair running, yoga, boot camps, circuit and interval training as well as participating in many field experiences. The purpose of the field experiences is to gain exposure to some different types of fitness classes that exist in our community. While we will be choosing our field trips based on the interests of the class, some possibilities include hiking, martial arts, spin class, paintball and rock climbing.
We will focus on setting and working towards personal fitness goals throughout the semester some of which will be measurable increases in such fitness testing as the beep test, step test, push ups etc. Your personal fitness goals can encompass any or all of the components of fitness cardiovascular endurance, strength, power, agility, and flexibility.

Assessment for this course will consist of blog entries, reflection, self-assessment and exit interviews with Mr. Harrison. As a class we will be discussing the details of assessment on an ongoing basis. You will be creating a blog in this class as an online journal to reflect on & track your progress,

Classroom Expectations
Super Fit is a course where you will be expected to work hard on a daily basis. Your success in meeting your fitness goals will be directly related to your level of participation and your will to succeed. We will work toward creating a safe, supportive community within our class where we can encourage and motivate each other so that as a group, we can be successful in meeting our fitness and wellness goals. Other expectations include:
Students must work cooperatively and treat each other and the teacher with respect. Students must ask permission from the teacher to leave class for any reason. Students should speak English in class as much as possible No jewelry, cell phones, MP3s or other objects should be in your pockets No eating or chewing gum in the gym or outside as it can be a choking hazard Teacher dismisses the students, not the bell (all classes are finished with a class cheer!)
Department Policies
1. Zero-Policy: Students will receive a zero if they fail to hand in a project or assignment. If you miss a test you need to arrange a time after school or lunch to complete it.
2. Reassessment Policy: Students may have the opportunity to rewrite a test or assignment if they receive a failing grade.

Student has 1-5 Unexcused absent classes in a 2 week period
Student will be asked to meet with Counselor and Teacher to discuss consequences for missing class Counselor will phone the students parents to let them know about missed classes.
Level #2
6-10 Unexcused Absences
Student will meet with the Principal Student will get a contract which must be signed by each teacher, each day for 5 days If student successfully complete the contract. The intervention is over.
Level #3
Failure to complete level 2 contract or attendance does not improve
Student is suspended from class until the students parent comes to school to meet with Deputy Headmaster, Head Counselor and BC Administration.
Level #4
Failure to complete level 3 Contract
Student is no longer able to attend Maple Leaf School (expelled) and must return home
