    The hip bones, also called the os coxae, are made up of three bones that fuse together- the ilium, ischium, and pubis. The acetabulum is the concave cavity that forms the hip socket, and is shaped by all three bones of the os coxae. The female pelvis is generally more delicate and has a larger, more circular superior aperture compared to the male pelvis.
