ACTIVITY TOPIC: Attend three stakeholder meetings

PARTICIPANTS NAME: Dana L. Sawyer
1. What were the significant learning points for you in this activity?
I attended the Terry Campus Staff Senate meeting on 1/24/14. The group was enthuastic,
supportive of one another and the College and focused on student success for their
fundraising. That was refreshing to see. They also supported staff recognition on a
quarterly basis and were very involved in College and Campus activities. I also attended
an Energy Management Advisory Committee meeting, run by the Energy Management
Department here at the Terry Campus. We are partnering on several initiatives, including
the Building Automation Systems (BAS) program, the TAAACCT 3 grant and we offer
Certificate classes focusing on solar energy. There was a good group of industry
representatives at the Advisory Council, which is keeping us well-informed. That is a
necessity to stay relevant in the field. I then attended a Faculty Senate meeting on
3/12/14. Much like the Staff Senate, this working group is cohesive and very organized.
They discussed matters of importance to them and were helpful and respectful of one
another. All of these stakeholder groups make Delaware Tech what it is today - a
responsive, evolving organization with committed and dedicated staff and partners.

2. Which leadership characteristic(s) was/were enhanced and/or learned through this

activity? Explain.
I attended a broad mix of stakeholder meetings across the campus and had the
opportunity to meet new colleagues. Every meeting was informative and had a purpose.
The Staff and Faculty Senates have very dedicated people involved, who are motivated to
do good things for the campus community. That is vital to the stability of any
organization. The Department Advisory Council meeting brought home the need for
good communication both within and external to the College and Campus, and creates a
sense of connectiveness which is so important. Partnerships are what sustains us and
keeps us honest to the students' needs.
