Reflection 10 Minutes
What was this poem about?
How did Joel structure his poem?

Write Today on one side of the board, and
Tomorrow on the other side. Ask the students to
list phrases that they recall Joel saying. Discuss the
following elements used in Joels Poem:

Tomorrow (imagine)
We live in colour
We dance on the streets
We look the other in the eye
We embrace
We set free
Tomorrow our hope shall be a louder voice
than our apathy

Today (call to action)
We crawl on our hands and knees
Believing that tomorrow we are seeing
Stretch our eyes forward
Move our limbs
Turn our heads toward the sound of
liberation
I am crying for this world to change

Explain

Mind Maps - 10 Minutes
Ask students in their Mad Fest groups to
brainstorm as many words or phrases related
to their Mad Fest topic. Students are to
create two brainstorming lists as follows;

(2) Today Call to action

Prompt students to consider:
(5) Metaphors
(6) Similes
(7) Alliterations (Putting words next to
each other that make the same sound)
(8) Personification (Describing an object
as though its alive)
