My Self
First and foremost my name is Howard Anderson, however my friends know me as Don
Angelo. Im 5 feet 7 tall with a brown complexion and curly hair. I was born on the island of
Jamaica and I now live as a permanent resident in the United States. Previously I lived in a
violent neighborhood. Therefore, my dad thought it was best for me to come to the United States.
I strive to do my best in everything I do. At a tender age, I always knew I was
passionate about music, dance, fashion and art. Also my ancestors were singers so naturally the
talent was passed down to me. Life is full of mysteries and there is still a lot I dont know about
myself. However, growing up in the environment of Brooklyn changed me a bit as a person.
The Brooklyn culture was new to me so I had to adapt. I soon learned the Brooklyn talk,
walk, ways and taste. Being in such a multi-cultural area changed my perspective on life. The
food, clothes and shelter are different and a wide variety to choose from.
For the most part I currently live in a full house with 5 brothers, 2 sisters, my dad and
my step mom. The situation I live in is complicated, but we have the good and bad times. Its all
a part of my learning experience. Im a bit uncomfortable because my position is a tough one
though. A man got to do what he got to do to survive. So Im grateful for having this opportunity
to have your class at Brooklyn College.
My father is a wild character in so many ways. He is strict and sometimes
understanding. On the other hand, my own father is forcing me to join the U.S Navy at the
moment but Im not that type of person. I truly believe he wants the best for me although I dont
think joining the U.S Navy is a good idea in my opinion. He constantly over thinks about paying
for college but sometimes I honestly feel like running away. I pray to God for guidance because
he is the only one that understands my struggles. Well that was a piece of my crazy life and I
know thats not the end of the craziness. Im learning to overcome adversity and for now, I put
all of my energy and passion into my music.
