Year level(s)_9_______________
Learning area/ACARA focus:_Design &
Technologies processes & production skills
(ACARA 10.4, 10.5 p.32)
Date/Time __27/8/2014 P2_____
Lesson Focus:__Creating & Interacting Online
(ACARA 10.11 p.71)__

Background Information

Students have previously used Adobe Photoshop for similar projects.
Students understand what is required to create a movie graphic i.e. creating the graphic using
pictures and text obtained online as opposed to submitting an existing graphic.

Teaching/Learning Purpose(s) (written in terms of outcomes):

10.4 Critique, explore and investigate needs or opportunities to develop design briefs and justify the
selection of an increasingly sophisticated range of technologies, materials and systems to produce
creative designed solutions (p.32)

10.5 Apply design thinking, creativity, innovation, enterprise and project management skills to develop,
evaluate, modify and communicate design ideas; sequence production and management plans using
digital technologies (p.32)

10.11 Manage online projects taking into account social contexts and legal responsibilities, and evaluate
their success in creating enterprising and social opportunities (p.71)

Students will plan their creative designed solution in the form of an ad for a comedy movie, on
a social media platform.
Students will apply design thinking, creativity, innovation, enterprise and project management
skills to the project.
Students will plan the project taking into account social contexts and legal responsibilities.

Preparation:

The micro lesson will take place within Period 2, after the mentor teacher has brought the
students into the class, settled them and introduced myself and my fellow student teacher.
He will then explain the basics of the project to the students (an ad for a comedy movie,
with MA the upper limit for movie classification, and the dimensions for the ad graphic)

The class will be split in half between myself and my fellow student teacher, and each
taking the students to one end of the room to sit in a group to brainstorm/plan/discuss the
project.

I will supply the students with paper and a pencil for note taking if they choose to

Learning Experiences:

1. How will I engage the learners?

As an ice-breaker, I will ask my group to tell me their names and one thing they like about ICT.

I will follow by asking a series of questions designed to get them thinking about the project and
how they intend to approach it.

I will use the questions to encourage the students to engage in the group discussion.

Any students not engaging, I will ask them by name a question to help them participate.

I will encourage the students with positive feedback for good responses to questions and
prompt the students to think of another aspect if their answers are not on the right track.

2. Student tasks and activities (what will the students do to achieve the lesson purpose(s)?

Students are to plan their comedy movie ad for a social media platform.

Ask students What are we trying to achieve by completing this project? Some students may
respond with an answer along the lines of pass this class in which case Ill suggest they look
at the project form the point of view What if your job was an advertiser and your boss gave
you this task, how would you know if youd done a good job?

When choosing a movie, what things do you need to consider? Answers I will be
particularly looking for are target audience, rating classification, and genre. Also, I will
prompt the student to consider/discuss whether the target audience would be using the selected
social media, e.g. a movie that is targeted to toddlers will need an ad that appeals to parents.

Ask If you dont know what the rating of a movie is, how might you find out?
Ask How can you find out what the genre is?

When designing your ad in Photoshop, what are some things that you will need to consider?
Appropriate answers would include colour scheme, fonts, is the ad easy to read? Does it look
appealing?

What features of Photoshop could you use to make your ad more attractive? Looking for
answers other than copy and paste photos and text from Google, such as different special
effects within Photoshop

3. Conclusion (how do you summarise the learning and relate it to the lesson
purpose(s)?

After I am satisfied with the responses to the questions, I will recap the instructions
for the project (create a Photoshop document to the appropriate dimensions, select a
movie and begin creating a graphic), reminding them to think creatively. I will ask if
they have any questions and then I will send them to the computers to get started.

Assessment and evaluation: (How do you know the students have achieved the
learning purpose(s). Evaluate your own performance)

The students will be informally evaluated by the type and quality of the answers given
in response to the questions.
Given that this is a creative project, students will be consided to be achieving the
learning outcomes if they are providing good/creative out-of-the-box answers, while
demonstrating that they understand the technical requirements of the project.
