Though one would believe that a queer movement and a LGBT rights movement would have

similar goals, there are key differences. A modern LGBT rights movements fight for their full
acceptance in society. They work for social equality and awareness for their culture. hile a queer
movement would not only want to be accepted in society but declared as equals and not to put as much
attention to themselves. !ven if all the rights that the LGBT movement wants are passed, they are still
put in a separate category. The queer movement would state there would be no need for separate rights
because they aren"t different individuals. They are the same same as any heterose#ual person. $aving a
specific woman"s rights would mean they accept they are different and have to have a law passed to
give them the same rights. !ven though they"ll have the same rights, they would still be different from
men. %rye e#plains this phenomenon further by saying, &hen you question why you are being
blocked, why this barrier is in your path, the answer has not to do with individual talent or merit,
handicap or failure' it has to do with your membership in some category understood as a &natural( or
&physical( category( )%rye *+. %rye says this in reference to people not letting girls going to the park
because they deem it unsafe. omen don"t want to be treated any differently than men even if it"s in a
positive manner. This correlates with the difference between the queer movement and LGBT
movement. hile the LGBT movement works to try and gain e#tra rights for the group, the queer
movement ,ust wants true equality. They don"t want any e#tra rights or privileges that make them
similar to men, they want to be treated e#actly the same way that men are. This is why %rye uses the
cage e#pression to portray the oppression of women. %rye wants the se#ual orientation of a person not
to affect what ,ob they get, how much they get paid, or generally how they are treated. -n the end, The
queer movement wants to be more low.key but have an affect, while LGBT do rallies and radical
events to try to fight for their rights.
