Trading the BANK NIFTY Intraday-------Ambush Style!!
Saint001 16 Mar 2009, 13:25 GMT+0530
This thread is basically putting together all the concepts that we learnt in the smaller classes and utilising it for bigger
gainswe will trade pivot breakouts or breakdowns on the 10min charts,we will trade a monster gap up and fade it,vice versa
for huge gap downs. We will look for kicker patterns,we may also take the help of a few indicators that aid in telling us about
divergencesthis is not a Flow Trade. We are in this to attack for a fast gain, and therefore a bigger quantity. We take
profits off and don't mind if price just goes on and on without us.For that we have the side by side Flow TradesThis is
all about waiting for that opportunity to strike, and when that opportunity arises,it is all about striking hard.
The prey is BANK NIFTYThe predator is US.The Style is Ambush!
All the best!

But as usual, I have a doubt. Adds in ambush? And also..is the profit booking a pre meditated act or we do it on seeing the bar
movements. I have been following this strategy on Reliance..but was booking profits every few pointsguess that is not
correct.

Hi Puneet,
Adds on a consolidation breakdown, but as of now ..only 1 ADD.more my comfort levels. In ambush intraday,I get in 2's
and exit in 3's.Of course,if one plays 1 lot only, then exit also in 2's.
Exit 1 because of a bottoming tail and increased volumes.
Great questions as always..

First of all I am really thankful to Saint sir to start such a great thread. The charts posted were simply amazing. I waited for
Today's trades and after waiting for long I thought why not put up my own understanding. Though by the time I marked all the
trades Saint sir already posted the chart. Neverthless I will put my version. Initially I thought we will be going for quick profits,
but after looking at today's chart by Saint sir, I am not yet clear about profit booking. These are just thoughts and I did not
actually trade.
I am eagerly waiting for the feedback.

Re: BANK NIFTY Intraday-------Ambush Style!!
amitpethkar 25 Mar 2009, 23:17 GMT+0530
My understanding as follows. Wait for Saint sir for authentic answer.
Breakdown failure in todays case was that it tried to break below days low but could not instead started consolidating. We had
already broken first 5 min bar high with very good volume and the bar closed as WRB.
Still market could not move up, it consolidated and made another attempt but could not get past days high, which was a
breakout failure. Now it came crashing down and if you look at 30 min there is WRB with good volume. Now we expect days
low to be taken out with volume instead we see that momentum dried up and gave a positive WRB and few sideways bars on
10 min. There are some times in the market when we expect something to happen with high probability (because otherwise the
trend is in question) and then it does not then its a sign that something is wrong, which signals us for breakout/breakdown
failures.
Please refer Saint sir's chart on 20 March where he has shown breakdown failure example and how to identify it.

Yes in my view as the markets are continuous, patterns are continous but as trader's attach more weight to today's action
patterns formed today are more potent.
Ambush style is hit and run kind of styleit has tight and small stops so our initial quantity is more than what we would do in
flow trades,we may add 1/2 the initial quantity but the style here is take a trade, add quickly and close the trade the moment
market stops going in your way.
Best Wishes,
Smart_trade

Sacred Ocean,
My views same as ST's.I take not just today into consideration, but last few days as well.Patterns tend to take days to
form,so that entire view is taken, and therefore the breakouts bought. Not so in MiniFlow where only today is taken into
consideration.
And yes, adds for me in ambush is like :Initial Posn 2 lots,Add 1 lot,..not same sizes.

Thanks for all the feedback. Saint sir's appreciation has given me a boost.
Frankly, I did not expect such a great response and its great to see that it spurred interest of some of the experienced folks. I
am still a beginner and in the race to be a PRO. You guys are much ahead in the game. I have learnt a lot from all of you and
will still continue to extract as much as I can.

Thanks Saint Sir for starting this thread with nice explanatory charts. Thanks to ST / Neeraj / Amit /Prabhjeet For contributing
and helping to understand the concept.
My little doubt (Explained in this thread but still I am not very clear with it)
1) Where we place the stops? Is it at breakout candle low (considering long), for eg : taking Triangular pattern breakout, or
latest pivot low on 10 min or lower support line of triangle.

2) Do we reverse the trade on pattern fail? What is the criteria to consider the pattern is failed i.e. considering the above
example of triangle breakout, will it be treated as failed pattern if the lower support line of the triangle breaks or when the
breakout candle low is broken?
Hope I am able to convey what I want to say.
Thanks & regards

Re: BANK NIFTY Intraday-------Ambush Style!!

Stop will depend upon what we trade
1. consolidation high or low if we trade consolidation break.
2. If we trade failed breakout/breakdown then it could be the break high/low or if you trade consolidation after the failure then it
would be consolidation high/low.
Failure is something we expect to happen with high probability but it does not. So it could lead to reversals or sideways move
or it will be failure of failure like on 26th we went short on breakout failure but the downside momentum fizzled out in the same
bar we entered. Thats not a good sign, so now we will trade the failure of breakout failure, so we reversed to LONG now that it
could not go down. I hope I am not complicating.
Yes, we will trade patterns, failed patterns, breakouts, breakdowns and their failures. As Saint sir mentioned we are the
predators, ready to attack whenever we sniff a chance. Now this is easier said than done, but once we have a lot of charts
eyeballed and seen realtime price action, you will develop a feel. Again to keep it simple - we want the trend to continue and it
can't when the momentum stalls. So either it continues or reverses.
I hope all this makes sense.
Thanks,
Amit

Took an additional add as it is a reversal of previous trend.Day 1.And very nearly a Bearish Kicker Pattern on the Daily
Candlestick Charts..Therefore more aggressive.Took the first entry after 4 mins noticing that the bar is closing below pivots
and a definte bearish candle. All else self explanatory.
Very easy dayall out by end of day.
Today's gap down negated the entire day's gains on FridayFriday bulls are trapped,Thursday and before bulls are in hope
and pray mode.We capitalise on this shock and add and add our exits are on a pivot break.Nothing much happened
through the day.
All the best!

Breakout failure in the morning. Short the break of first 5 min bar low. Adds in the process and book profits when we tails
forming.
Bar making days low converted into hammer and closed positive which is sign of possible trend change but we dont preempt
here, instead wait for thr right time. Then we got a candle with bearish close and the next one gave +ve close inverted hammer,
now this is a sign that trend is exhausted and break of the high that bar is long.
Saint sir any comments, changes?

Ambush traders have an opportunity to add once this ascending triangle breaks to the up.and a new entry for those who
have already exitted all with sweet profits.
Of course, the other possibility is a failure..suits us just fine either way.

Yes, did enter long again there :) How did you handle the profit booking though before the fall back to those levels?
I try profit booking at important levels (or looking at the 2 min charts), but many a times, the price keeps moving past it soon
enough, making me feel bad that I closed part of the position!

Re: BANK NIFTY Intraday-------Ambush Style!!
amitpethkar 1 Apr 2009, 00:14 GMT+0530
I have shown a short inside ascending triangle in the chart because I take it as a breakout failure, which eventually failed i.e.
failure of failure which is strong sign that earlier trend might continue so we reverse to longs on breakout. Some of you might
not have taken above short.
Saint Sir,
You mentioned usage of indicators in ambush. Could you please throw some light on what indicators and for entry or exit or
both? I think we can use indicators for profit booking (ones which become overbought/oversold - maybe RSI, STOCH or
combination)
Thanks,

Trade 1 same as yours,Trade 2 same as yours except that I took half off at resistance, which went on to make that asc
triangle, and readded half on a breakout from there.Took profits off in the 4165-4170 area. And back half once price moved back
to that triangle.Tried a Trade 3 shorting the breakdown, nothing much from that trade.
But 2 good moves in a day.love days like this when we get trend moves in both directions.

My Trades -
Trade 1 - Long above the 10 min pivot high (blue line). The price goes up with all green bars and then finally after a WRB we
have a bearish candle and then another one with almost the same lows.
Trade 2 - I then short below those 2 candles.. triggers, goes down and then some sideways movements, but forms a lower PH.
Trade 3 - Long again above the PH, hold till EOD.
Also cant wait to learn about how you use indicators n such for profit booking :) This method seems to suit me perfectly!

A warm welcome SH.
The trading methods being followed are all about the concepts covered under the Foundations.
The details about these are given in Foundations Section and for implementation you can checkout School > Foundations >
How to implement these in trading. This can be selected through the top navigation bar.
And moreover each day the trade setup that is taken is discussed here in this thread.

The support area I could have only judged after the next bullish bar was made. But I am interested to know how you could judge
the support area before this bullish bar was made. Three very strong bearish bars and you exited bang at the end which is what
I want to know, how you got this exit. Normally after such a strong close one expects the fall to continue.
or did you exit after the bullish bar was made?

Bee,
It has been my observation that mkt goes sideways or takes a correction after 5 bars of trending in any direction. Always if you
are short,it is a good idea to take some profit in 4th bar dip or the 5th bar. This gives you a great profit booking entry when
nobody is expecting a correction against our existing position.

Smart_trade

Bee ,
You will be surprised to see this 5 bars phenomenon on any timeframe. See it on 10 min,30 min and also 60 min TF. In fact
this is one of the profit booking technique in some system. I can name the system but dont want it to cause any confusion
here.
But I am also surprised to see mkt going in correction mode ( not necessarily trend change mode ) in various time frames from
10 min to daily charts after 5 bars of trended move.

Bee,
About the "support" part of your query..not to forget that ambush trades are looking at past 2-3 weeks of charts as
well.Draw your strong support and resistance lines from back then.Major turning points, not every little move.
Just to impress the importance of these pointswe have multiple bars down in our favour, reward now at 2:1 on risk on both
positions,an area of bounce approaches. We therefore pocket some.

Thank you very much Saint..
from the humble beginnings of using only the patterns to the current stage of looking for the important pivot levels in addition to
pivots/patterns
also, not to forget MJ's blog on volume analysis / resting bar relishing the learning here in this forum
slowly understanding the price action.. be it the 60 min chart or the 10 min chart
Thanks a lot again Saint. Words are not enough to praise the efforts of everyone contributing to this forum.

Something abt to happen .. narrow range bars LONG abv days high and short below latest 10 min PL.
If LONG triggers and fails then we will look to short the brkout failure. Vice versa for brkdown failure.

So far,not in any ambush tradesthat first move happened after a gap below pivots.Better to wait for pivots rather than
anticipate a move either direction.
Now we getting pivots on the 10Long over the high made at 10:30 +f

Yes NR,now in short posns.below the 11:30 am bar low-f
If you don't see it clearly on 10,have a look at 5 for greater clarity.

No NR..If price breaks past the previous pivot high, you are in.No waiting for that bar to complete. If price then falls after
that, action to the reverse if necessary

More correct would have been 4840 over the breakdown bar failure on 10but personally reversed over 4862+f over the high
of that WRB.
