Grade Weekly Newsletter
Reading
Welcome to our first newsletter
of the year! This week we took
some beginning of the year
reading/comprehension
assessments. We also started
working in our interactive
Language Arts notebooks, talking
about good and bad choices in
school. Students also heard a few
stories and worked on story
elements like problem/solution.
Math
Grammar/Writing
Science
Social Studies
We will begin Social Studies
next week.
We started odd and evens for
chapter 1. Students practiced this
concept by counting an unknown
number of goldfish crackers with
their partners and determining if
they had an odd or even number.
Eating them was the best part!
0,2,4,6,8 are even and 1,3,5,7,8 are
odd.
We have done a few writing
assignments already this year.
This week, we worked on going
through the publishing process
by brainstorming summer
memories on a graphic organizer,
using that to write complete
sentences for a rough draft,
conferencing and editing with me,
and then finally publishing it on
the final copy paper and making
a craft for our Summer Bucket
Memories.

We started an intro chapter before
chapter 1 in Science. We learned
what scientists do and what tools
they use to conduct experiments.
We also started learning about the
Scientific Method and did some
interactive notebooking activities.
Kids started making their super
cute scientist craft!
