School of Engineering and Sciences
VISION

Equal means the same, I will not be treating you exactly the same way. Being fair mean that I
will do my best to give each student what he or she needs to be successful. What you need and
what someone else needs may be very different. I will always be fair, but this means things wont
always feel equal.
-Ms. Fultz

A. About My School:

This is my second year here at the School of Engineering and Sciences (SES). The schools
mission is to provide high levels of learning for all students. SES is one of the newest and
only 7th through 12th grade programs within Sacramento City Unified School District, the
School of Engineering and Sciences prides itself on the quality of students and high level
of school community leadership, its undeniable student performance and academic
excellence. SES is a 7th through 12th grade program designed to meet the needs and
pique the interests of students who would like to pursue careers in engineering and

sciences. This school is designed to assist and teach all students to build on ideals of
others, encourage creativity and curiosity, and respects the educational platform, which
engages all learners. Given that it is my second year, it is my hope that I use my
consistency to continue improving the full inclusion practices here at SES.

B. About My Communities:
This year I will co-teach Math 7 and Math 8 as well as have a full caseload of 25-28
students. My students come from diverse backgrounds and are very racially diverse.
Roughly 1/4
th
are white Caucasian, another 1/4
th
African America, another 1/4
th
Latino, and
the final 1/4
th
Asian American. These portions are also reflected in my IEP ratio, which is
uncommon for most school in the SCUSD. It is the fact that SES is a school of choice that
allows for such diversities to occur. It is also these vast diversities that drive me to improve
my work to ensure all are represented in my instruction.

My Vision:

Taking into account the culture of my school, the challenges of my community, and the needs of
my students, my team has identified 3 values that I believe will lead to a transformative classroom
this year.
I expect my students to exemplify EXCELLENCE in each and every task they complete in the
classroom. My excellence motto will be Anything worth doing, is worth doing it right! This
concept will be extended to the students in my caseload as well as my GenEd math
students. I will hold ALL students to high expectations and will ensure I support them all to
access this education.
Just like my classroom cannot exist in a bubble, neither can my curriculum. CONNECTIVITY
is the ability to make and maintain a connection. It is my hope that this value will
materialize in a host of forms within our classroom. Our curriculum will consistently
connect academic concepts to their real-world application. Further, given that we are
working with the new Common-Core standards it is imperative that we take the time to
relate the curriculum to our students.
While it is impossible to control what my students encounter outside of school walls, it is
our charge to create a pleasant environment for each of my students while they are in my

care. Each day I will encourage my students to possess and exhibit a POSITIVE ATTITUDE.
Whether challenges emerge in their personal life or they experience setbacks as they work
toward their academic benchmarks, an optimistic mindset is key. I believe that a positive
attitude is an important gateway to other attributes such as perseverance, hope, and
confidence. Moreover, with the new curriculum, us as teachers must also remain optimistic
in terms of the success of our lessons and that of our students. If we do not get something
the first time we must be kind to each other knowing we will continue to improve.

My Vision for my IEPs:

My main responsibility as an RSP teacher is to ensure my IEPs are up to date and
compliant. It is my responsibility that I hold my IEP meetings when they are due, that I
track service minutes, and above all that I ensure my students meet their IEP goals. In
order to do this I will strive to be organized with my tracking systems. I will ensure I
communicate with the GenEd teachers and all professionals involved ensuring my students
needs are being met. Finally, I will strive to maintain a strong home-school communication

with all of my parents. If I am to uphold these, all of my students will meet their IEP goals
with 100% accuracy as measured by their IEP meetings.
