Background Information
This week the students watched a documentary on Sao Paulo which is a
city that uses an effective sustainability program for rubbish. Due to that
documentary the students know what a sustainable city looks like. They
understand the concept of sustainability. Also on Thursday the class had
40mins to start on the worksheet, in which the teacher clearly stated
what she wanted in this project.

Teaching/Learning Purpose(s) (written in terms of outcomes)
1) To enable students to learn about a particular sustainable project that
is suburban, local, council, city or another country
Preparation (Checklist):
1) Students need to bring to the library (where my small group activity
will be held):
- Their laptop
- Their worksheet
- Any notes they have so far made on this project
- Their atlases
2) I will need:
- To be wearing a watch
- My lesson plan
- A pen
- My worksheet, where I have made my own notes

Learning Experiences:
1. How will I engage the learners?
I will engage the students by giving out verbal praise to the students who
are in my group. Which are looking at me when I ask for their attention,
and staying on task. I have chosen an interesting activity that they will
hopefully get them excited to learn about a real-life sustainable project. I
will sound enthusiastic when talking to them about the tasks. Lastly I will
emphasise how important sustainability is.

2. Student tasks and activities (what will the students do to achieve the
lesson purpose(s)? 44 Murdoch University

5mins Introduction Talking about the activity

- Sit the students in a circle or a table, wherever there is a
small space in the library
- Introduce myself
- Ask them to take out their worksheet and notes
- Go around the table ask them what project they have
found, what is their project about? Where did they find
the information?
- Students who haven't found a project yet, I will ask them
where they are planning to look for various projects, ask
the other students to help them out, with giving them
some ideas/ websites

10mins Doing the activity

- Students start to go through the worksheet
- Finding a sustainability project
- Writing a brief description of the sustainability project
- As they go on with their worksheet, I will be walking around
the group, making sure they are on task (not on social sites with
their laptops), talking to each of them individually, and asking
them how they are planning on presenting their research (e.g.
PowerPoint, poster, brochure, and pdf)

5mins Conclusion
- Get the kids to shut down their laptops, to put them away, sit
around the table and give me their attention
- Ask if anybody has any questions about the project
- Pose the question that if they were to do their own project for a
sustainability project, in real life what would be some of things they
would do? (Example: Tree planting, Recycling rubbish, etc.)

3. Conclusion (how do you summarise the learning and relate it to the lesson
purpose(s)?
The actual project of having to present a sustainability project to the class
would enable the students to clearly know what a sustainability project is all
about. To conclude and summarise the lesson I asked each student to give me
a project they could do themselves, in the school, or at home or locally. They
each were easily able to give me certain things they could do to make the
world more sustainable.
