Attention Grabber: How many of you are involved in Community Service?

Well in 2012, more


than 64.5 Americans contributed to community service.
Importance to Audience: Community service can help so many people, and that includes
yourself.
Thesis: Volunteering is an aspect that can strengthen you and your community.
Preview: I will tell you what community service is, how it makes you healthy, and how it is a
pathway to employment.
I. Main Point One: Community Service is volunteer work intended to help people in a
certain area.
A. Sub-point A: It can be raising money for a specific organization.
B. Sub-point B: Working booths or stations at local festivals or fairs.
C. Sub-point C: Being a part of an organization that builds homes, like Habitat for
Humanity.
1. For example, Habitat for Humanity believes that everyone should have a safe and
reliable home. This organization goes out and builds homes for families that are in
desperate need. This type of community service is about family and home.

II. Main Point Two: Volunteering is a great way to keep yourself healthy.
A. Sub-point A: It gives you higher level of happiness and more self-esteem.
B. Sub-point B: Also it gives you a better physical health.
C. Sub-point C: People who stay more involved stay in good shape.
1. Volunteer work does take some effort, but in the end it is worth it.
2. How many of you do community service to make yourself feel good?
3. What about to get hours required in a certain group?
4. Or do your parents make you volunteer?

III. Main Point Three: Finally I will discuss how volunteering is a pathway to
employment.
A. Sub-point A: People who volunteer are 27% more likely to find a job after being out
of work than others.
B. Sub-point B: Also it expands a persons networks. The more people you know, the
more opportunity there is.
C. Sub-point C: Lastly, it gives the volunteer a chance to take on leadership roles that
they might not have gotten to if they were not volunteering.

Conclusion:
Summary: Community Service can give someone the ability to succeed and keep their
mind and bodies healthy. So, I hope you now understand how community service makes
an impact on your life.
Clincher: Anyone can become a volunteer, and all it takes is getting involved.
Community Service can do a lot than these few points I talked about, not only for you but
for your community too.
