Physical Education Term 3 Learning Story

On Tuesday August 26
th
, Mr John Dorge, a former Australian Olympic basketball player
spoke to the Grade Six year level about his illustrious career in basketball as a player, coach
and mentor. In his talk, Mr Dorge touched on the three key themes of grasping
opportunities, setting effective goals and working as a part of a team.

Below are a series of reflective questions.

1. MAKING THE MOST OF AN OPPORTUNITY:

a) Reflect on a time, moment or event in which you took a risk and grabbed an
opportunity. Recently I went to athletics to try and see how I do in sports.

b) In your soon coming transition from Primary Education to Secondary Education,
is there something / an opportunity you are looking forward to trying? Because I
got into the advanced placement for parade, I want to try my best at school and
learn as much as possible. If there is a chance to improve my academic results
then Ill take it

2. SETTING EFFECTIVE GOALS:

c) Have you ever taken the time to set yourself a goal or a series of goals? If so, did
you achieve it / them? I am part of Vovinam which is a much disciplined based
martial arts that requires patience and hard training. I set myself to become a
yellow belt. If I can get yellow belt while Im under 13 then that would be
awesome.

d) In your soon coming transition from Primary Education to Secondary Education,
is there a goal or a series of goals you wish to set yourself. If so, what measures
will you take to achieve it / them? To achieve my academic goals I must set a
timetable and use it as a balancing tool for homework and hobbies. Right now I
think Im doing well in school because I learn at school then I practice what Ive
learned, at home.

3. WORKING AS PART OF A TEAM:

e) Reflect on a time, where you worked as a part of a team. Was the team
successful, and if so, how did you positively contribute to the achieved success?
In The Multicultural Cup I participated and helped the team with positive
encouragement and passing the ball around to my teammates.

f) In your soon coming transition from Primary Education to Secondary Education,
is there an opportunity you are looking forward to trying in which you will have
to work effectively as a part of a team? I may join the debating team as I was
chosen to be in a debate at school and I have experience in it. My team won and
it was because we helped each other write and edit each others work.
