BACK TO THE

FUTURE
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

TO KNOW THAT WE DESIGN THINGS FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES AND USERS
TO EVALUATE PRODUCTS AND IDENTIY IDEAS TO USE IN OUR OWN WORK
TO MAKE LABELLED DIAGRAMS FROM DIFFERENT VIEWS SHOWING SPECIFIC FEATURES
DESIGN BRIEF
YOUR TASK IS TO DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT A PROTOTYPE OF HOLY NAME
SCHOOL FOR THE YEAR 2089
Student Name: Brandon Luu & Tasso

Grade: 6M & 6L

Investigating:

Analysing the
situation

Considerations
What are some things
that have changed at
Holy Name school
over time? What will
be important in a
school of the future?
Think about
technology, space,
enrolments etc.
When we were in year 3, there werent
as many computers as now.
There will be more students in the
future due to population changes.
We were given Interactive
Whiteboards in 2010.
We were built a second floor which is
our library.
The school was much, much smaller
when it was first built.
We never used to have a sand pit.
In the future, we will need more staff.
We will need much more space.
Canteen.
Science club.

Write a brief
Write a short
statement giving the
general outline of the
problem to be solved.

For space, we were thinking of buying all the
houses behind the basketball courts and near
the After School care house. Also some of the
houses across Tyler Street.
For enrolments, we were thinking of an estimate
of 650-750 student in the school.

Research the
problem
Think about ways in
which your
considerations can
be
solved/accommodated
for. E.g. If you
decide that your
school needs space
for increasing
numbers, what are
some ways in which
you can create space?
As we said previously, a solution for space is to
buy the houses behind the basketball courts and
on the left of the basketball courts as well.
Because of the population rising, we were
estimating that there are going to be 650-750
students at Holy Name.
I forgot to mention that we were thinking of
building a second floor along with the library.
We also thought of having a canteen so kids
dont have to always have the same things over
and over again.

Designing:

Write a
specification
This detailed
description of
the problem
spells out what
the design must
achieve and what
limitations will
affect the final
solution.

Work out
possible
solutions
Combine the
ideas from
your
investigation
to suggest
several
possible design
solutions.
Sketch several
possibilities on
paper.

Select a preferred solution

Producing:

Prepare
working
drawings and
construct a
prototype.
Draw, to scale,
detailed plans
of your new
school.

Question 4:

Modifying:
List and justify any modifications that you have made.

Write a Report:
Write a report that explains the process you followed to complete your
future school design. Reflect upon all the stages in the process and
justify your work. Discuss the investigating, planning, designing,
evaluating and modifying of your design.
