Area of a
Parallelogram

A Parallelogram is a flat shape with opposite sides
parallel and equal in length.

| and || show equal sides

Opposite sides are parallel.
Opposite sides are equal in length.
Opposite angles are equal (angles "a" are the same, and
angles "b" are the same).
Angles "a" and "b" add up to 180, so they are
supplementary angles.

The area of a parallelogram
is twice the area of a triangle
created by one of its
diagonals.

Divide the parallelogram
into two triangle.

Area of a Parallelogram
= Sum of Area of Triangles
= 1/2 bh + 1/2 bh
= bh
The area of a parallelogram is
given by the formula

Area = bh, where b is the
base and h is the
perpendicular height.
