The aim of this course is to enable you to - Communicate in French, discussing and exchanging opinions - Acquire information from French language resources, using authentic materials - Experience analyzing and responding to authentic creative works in French - Develop and demonstrate an understanding of Francophone cultures
Required Materials:
Text: Because this is a split class, there will be some overlap with the textbooks depending on the particular activity or task; however, for the most part grade 11 students will be working from the second half of Cest toi level 2, and grade 12 students will use the beginning of Cest toi level 3.
Student Supplies: 3-ring binder with dividers, pen, pencil, eraser, & lined paper. Students should also bring head phones to use for Duolingo. A good French-English dictionary and pencil crayons are also recommended, but not required.
Expectations:
SPEAK FRENCH! Learning a second language can be a very difficult task. You are not expected to be experts, but you are always expected to try. You learn from your mistakes. You MUST practice speaking the language. Everyone is expected to participate in order to pass the course. 10% of your grade will be allotted for your use of the language in daily class operations.
ATTENDANCE A large part of your mark is based on in-class activities, and your grade is cumulative; therefore, it is required that you attend class. It is your responsibility to catch up on missed work.
PERSONAL TECHNOLOGY DEVICES You are encouraged to bring your personal technology devices to class as long as it complies with the above expectations. Absolutely no texting or phone calls in class, and no ear buds during instruction/interaction time. The use of these technologies is subject to the discretion of the teacher, and abuse will lead to immediate loss of privileges. Student initials: ________________
2 French 11/12 Mme. Pozzobon HOMEWORK Class time will be provided to work on assignments; however, you are also expected to practice and review material, as well as finish any incomplete work at home. 10% of your grade will be allotted to homework completion. If homework and/or assignments are not completed on time, you will still be able to turn them in for full marks; however, you will not be able to make up the hw completion marks.
FOOD & DRINK - Please bring a water bottle to class. Your brain needs water! Other healthy drinks and snacks are permissible in class, only if you can eat them quietly and by yourself. Absolutely NO ENERGY DRINKS (ie. Redbulls, Monsters, etc.), and sugary drinks should be kept to a minimum (nothing over a size small!).
Evaluation:
Term 1 and term 2 are worth a total of 80%, and the final year-end examinations will be worth 20%. This evaluation will comprise of writing, reading, speaking and listening. It includes assignments, projects, quizzes, tests, and in-class activities.
