reinvigorate Europes relations with fast evolving regions. The ottoman empire has been historically seen as a military threat. Turkey is a strong and loyal NATOP ally and could see this growing economic and diplomatic power. Turkey is not a European country, 97% of its land lies in Asia. The growth of 7% through the first century and it weathered the global financial downturn a lot better than most EU nations. In Turkey, human rights are severely abused. Turkey has a rich unique cultural heritage an EU membership would be a catalyst for resolving Kurdish issues. The Turkish government is not a European democracy, rather it is a group of varying Islamic hues. EU membership would be the symbol of Turkeys success as a secular Islamic Nation Turkey is still an underdeveloped nation. Its GDP per capita is less than half the EUs average at $14,600. Bringing turkey in would inject new life into the EU economy, as well as adding 75 million consumers to a single market. Turkey is overwhelmed with Muslim religion. This religion differs from that of Christian Europe.
How is immigration a problem for the EU? Immigration creates many problems in the EU. Immigrants hail from member and non-member states and overwhelm citizen life. The EU has tried to put pressure economically, and politically on the nations in which the immigrants are from to seize the problem. The pressure put on Turkey by the EU caused a shooting to occur on a refugee ship by a coastal guard resulting in 1 death and 5 wounded. This situation was not needed for either nation. Efforts have been welcomed for the Italian government to finger all non-residents and have them deported. Otto Schily supports these efforts and claims there are over 500,000 immigrants with the claim to be deported but cannot be. Some immigrant groups have also brought violence to the nations. Immigrants are involved in gangs that cause havoc and force children and women to become prostitutes for the gangs benefit. The children and prostitutes are ferried across Europe in Lorries to stay undetected from the government. The funds used to fuel these ferries are said to be terroristic funding. The economy also suffers from immigrants. Too many people work union jobs and do not pay taxes causing the economy to fall. The standard of living also suffers from immigration. More people work jobs for less and gain benefits that cost the medical insurances to pay millions of pounds more per year.
How are they dealing with this problem? The EU is dealing with problems of immigration. They are trying to solve this problem by agreeing on joint policies that they are trying to implement. The EU has also tried to put pressure on the nonmember states of Europe that started this problem. There has been question all over of how to control immigration. Now, different governments and experts have come up with all different kinds of solutions to stop immigration. However, not every nation in the EU agrees on the same solutions of controlling immigration.
The Italian minister has proposed an idea to halt the flow of illegal immigration, and during this, reduce the cost on the Italian government. With his proposal many immigrants will migrate to the country through the government rather than through dangerous gangs. However, the Swedish government stated that they will not restrict the movement of immigrants through its borders when the new member states join the EU! The Swedish government does not want to stop immigration because they think that immigration means added labor is coming in. This has caused controversy because now the Italian minister and the Swedish government do not agree! Although, government stand is based on the EU act which allows all members freedom of movement within states.
