Quoting Format

PUNCUATION WHEN INTRODUCING QUOTES


1. When you use an entire sentence to introduce a quote, put a colon after the sentence.
Holden describes to Phoebe what hed really like to be in life: What I have to do, I have to catch
everybody if they start to go over the cliff-I mean if theyre running and they dont look where

2. When a dependent clause OR a dependent word is at the end of a quote introduction, use
a comma.
