Readers Workshop
We are nearly done teaching all the
routines in the launching phase of the
literacy block. Next week we will run
our first rounds of center work and run
a few guided reading groups!

Wri ters Workshop
We are in the final days of the pattern
book unit. Our young writers are making
decisions about the topic they will write
about and the type of pattern that
works well with that topic. We will do
our first revising and editing early in the
week as we finish the unit by publishing
our best work.


Math
This week we took our Unit 1 end of the
unit assessment and began Unit 2.
2.1 - We practiced counting forward
and backward on the number grid,
using a number grid and number
line to solve problems, and learned
how to play Rolling to 50
2.2 - Numbers All Around: We talked
about how numbers are
everywhere around us and found
different pictures with numbers
in them to make a collage.
Math Facts to 5: We began practicing
both addition and subtraction
math facts to five.

Sci ence
Air - a study in how things move. We
began this unit with two exciting
investigations. We used air to move
different small objects and we explored
what air in a vile can do under water. Be
sure to ask your child how a paper towel

vocabulary for the unit is; matter, gas,
submerge, pressure, inflate, propel, and
resistance. We have practiced reading
non-fiction books and writing I wonder
questions. We learned a little about The
Wright Brothers and designed our own
flying machines.



Social Studies


The Second Step Lesson this week
focused on tools for staying focused.
We practiced using our attenta-scopes
as a way to help us pay attention to what
is important. We learned that we get
smarter when our brains work hard and
pay attention.
