o namo bhagavate mukhyatamya namah sattvya prn yaujase sahase balya
mah-matsyya nama iti.
Word for word:
om O my Lord; namah respectful obeisances; bhagavate unto the Supreme Personality of
Godhead; mukhya-tamya the first incarnation to appear; namah my respectful obeisances;
sattvya unto the pure transcendence; prn ya the origin of life; ojase the source of the
potency of the senses; sahase the origin of all mental power; balya the origin of bodily
strength; mah-matsyya unto the gigantic fish incarnation; namah respectful obeisances; iti
thus.
ranslation:
! offer my respectful obeisances unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead" who is
pure transcendence. #e is the origin of all life" bodily strength" mental power and
sensory ability. $nown as %atsy&'at&ra" the gigantic fish incarnation" #e appears

pralayo payodhi-jale dhr tavn asi veda
vihita-vahitra-caritram akhedam
keava dhr ta-mna-arra jaya jagad-a hare
Soon after the cosmic creation" the entire uni'erse was inundated with water. (t that time Lord
$r , s ,n,a -$e.a'a/ incarnated as a gigantic fish to protect the Vedas. herefore %anu addresses Lord
%atsya as mukhyatama, the first incarnation to appear. 0ish are generally considered a mi1ture of
the modes of ignorance and passion" but we must understand that e'ery incarnation of the Supreme
Personality of Godhead is completely transcendental. here is ne'er any deterioration of the
Supreme Lord2s original transcendental 3uality. herefore the word sattvya is used here" meaning
pure goodness on the transcendental platform. here are many incarnations of the Supreme Lord:
4ar&ha mrti -the boar form/" $5rma mrti -the tortoise form/" #ayagr*'a mrti -the form of a
horse/ and so on. 6et we should ne'er thin7 any of hem material. hey are always situated on the
platform of uddha-sattva, pure transcendence.
