Constraints

Every project gives you opportunities to create but also constraints to work to. Use this hand out to
consider the constraints, which will affect your project.
Constraints
What timescale have you got for this project? How could this impact your work?
The timescale for this project is 6 weeks in which we have a number of tasks to complete. This will
impact my work greatly as I dont think that there is a lot of time to complete everything we have
to do. As we have to design an advert, storyboard, web banner and create a design for our
product, this will take a lot of time, so if I want to complete to the work within the allotted time, I
will have to be very focused and follow the timescale precisely.
If I am unable to complete the tasks within college time, I will have to carry them on at home, but
this could be difficult if I dont have access to some of the resources I may need.

Are there any resources you will need for this project that you will not be provided with? How
could this affect your project? What can you do about this?
Resources wise, we have complete control of what we want to use, which is good because I can
use my imagination to come up with a very good product. The problems I have are that the
company have given us limited information about the product they want, which can also be
difficult because I have to come up with the target audience, logo, colour scheme and everything
else. I would have to think carefully about what I want to produce by creating a lot of mind maps
so it will make it easier for me to narrow down what I want to achieve in my final product.

What restraints could be imposed by an organisation such as the Advertising Standards
Authority (ASA)? How could this impact your project?
There are a few different codes that I will have to follow very carefully as so to not get in trouble
with the ASA. Depending on the type of advert I decide to make will depend on which codes I have
to comply with. In all cases, I will have to comply with sections 3: Misleading Advertising, 4: Harm
and Offence and 15: Food, food supplements and associated health or nutritional claims.
If I am wanting to target an audience of anyone under the age of 16, I would also have to consider
section 5: Children.
