Greek Art
1. All other cultures we have studied have been
forgotten at some point in history.
a. Greeks have always been remembered
b. They have influenced all art periods after them.
c. Rome compares to the Greeks only because they
transmitted Greek ideas.

Intro
What Greek gods do you know of?
Aphrodite goddess of love, beauty and fertility
(symbol = dove)

Apollo- god of prophesy, music, and healing ( symbol
= lyre)

Ares- god of war (symbol = blood stained spear)

Artemis- virgin goddess of the hunt (symbol = bow
and quiver )


Greek Gods
Athena- goddess of crafts, and the domestic arts (symbol =
owl)

Demeter- goddess of agriculture (symbol = sheaf of grain)

Dionysus- god of wine (symbol = grape vine)

Hera- goddess of marriage and birth (Zeus wife and Queen
of the Olympians)
(symbol = the peacock/pride)

Poseidon- god of the sea (symbol = trident)


Zeus- supreme god of the Olympians (Symbol = lightning bolts)

Hades- god of the underworld (symbol = two pronged staff)

Pan-god of shepherds and flocks with goat horns and legs
(symbol = reed pipe or shepherds staff)

Medusa- goddess of snakes (symbol = snake) Hair was turned
into living snakes

Hercules- hero with great strength

Atlas- titan who bears the globe

THE TASK:
You will pick a god from ancient Greece and make an acrylic modern
representation of him/her.
PROCESS:
1. Decide on god, and modern representation. (could be a famous person)
2. Find images of this modern person.
3. Sketch out your ideas and present to Mrs. Wun
4. Use other images and ideas to symbolize the god
5. Remember all art design rules apply!

ART PIECE:
16 X 20 or larger. . .
Acrylic medium
Must have a realistic image in it:
photocopy (good)
graphite down image (better)
sketched from photograph (best)
Must have 6 7 items, areas, etc.
