Step 2: write a paragraph (summarizing)
There has been a breach at home depot. The officials say it was worse than the breach
at target. Home depot went longer than target with not noticing they were being hacked, the
hackers hacked into the in-store payment system. So far they have found out the breach has
not affected the store in Mexico but the home depots in the United States. To most people they
feel as is home depot did not handle the situation well, they failed to alert their customers
when they first found out. Those customers are not happy; they feel they should have been
protected more by the store. Home depot is trying to make it up to customers affected or could
be affected by offering free identity protection and credit-monitoring services to any customer
who had used a credit or debit card at any of its affected stores. It is found that not only was
home depot and target was hacked but other companies were too. Experts believe it could be
the people/group. Home depot and their associates are doing everything in their powers to
finding how exactly they were hacked and how they can prevent this from happening again.
Step 3: two additional articles
Chrome: Home depot breach, home depot breach 2014
Yahoo: home depot breach, home depot breach 2014
Even though I used the same keywords for each search engine, chrome worked better
for me rather than yahoo. When I went to cite at easy bib more information was
found under the chrome search engine. When I used the search engine yahoo, easy
bib didnt seem to be able to collect all the information was need after I provided they
cite.
Step 4: Evaluate one article
Time: Tue Sep 9, 2014 12:07pm, no updates
Relevance: It has some of the same information as the first article I read and has
additional information about the breach.
Authority: author; NANDITA BOSE. She is with/ writes for Reuters, which delivers
the latest news to inform people whats going on around the world.
Accuracy: The information is trustworthy. This article compared to the other
articles pretty much state the same main facts that everyone knows. This article
is more fact based then opinionated. I cannot determine if it was tested for
accuracy but the facts check out when checked on several search engines.
Purpose: the purpose of this article was to inform the audience, there was no
bias information found to the best of my knowledge.

Step 5: Two scholarly journals
I used CCBC library database. I used this database because it was required. The
keywords I used for this search was security breach. I tried other keywords
unfortunately those were the only ones that came up with articles I could
connect with me subject in some way.

Step 6: Compare internet articles and journals
Its hard to compare the journals and the internet articles because mostly the articles
are related by if I wanted to continue more into the research. Like if I wanted more information
on how the shareholders of home depot could be affected generally like most shareholders do
when something negative happens. Or more understanding of how costs can shift once there
has been a breach. Personally I much rather only use the internet articles, it was easier to find
accurate related information based on my subject. There was a huge time difference in the
internet articles than journals. The journals werent even from this year but thats the best I
could find. When reading the internet article "Home Depot Confirms Security Breach following
Target Data Theft." It was written this month on the 28
th
. The author seems to have credible
evidence to where she can back up to what shes saying. Also it was very easy to find this
article, I only had to type in three keywords and it popped right up. When reading "The Impact
of Information Security Breaches: Has There Been a Downward Shift in Costs?" I had to play
around more with the keywords to even find anything related to security breach. Students are
the authors of this journal so its harder to check if the material is more bias or opinionated.
Also a huge difference in finding a journal I first have to log into CCBC database before I can
read the information unlike the internet articles I needed no username or password to read
them.
