CAUSES IMPACTS

The Island of Haiti sits on a small strip of
plate called the Gonave microplate which
is squeezed in between the North
American and Caribbean tectonic plates.
This plate boundary had been building up
stress for 50 years since the last major
earthquake in 1946 which rocked
neighbouring Dominican Republic.




One third of the countrys population (10
million people) were affected.
