1) Firstly, my experience has taught me that a PE tutorial is not just as simple as
playing a game with students. Whilst this can be incorporated, the lesson must be well planned, fun, and meet learning out comes so that students can develop new skills and experiences. Much more goes into the management of a PE lesson than I initially thought. 2) Throughout the semester, the learning activities built up a foundation for me to use as a future teacher. Key concepts such as warm up activities, game sense and cooperative learning were displayed to us, whilst also showing how to manage the class at the same time. How we develop a range of different students skills was incorporated throughout, so that we are prepared to teach a PE lesson effectively. 3) I now feel that I have a structured foundation on which I can use while teaching PDHPE. I am confident that with quality preparation and a solid use of resources, I can effectively teach a PE class to a range of different students. My next steps are to develop my knowledge of the skills and concepts that I need to teach. Also learning a range of different ways to engage the students through different activities and games will be beneficial. PDH Reflection. 1) I have learnt that many concepts that I teach in the classroom can have long lasting effects for students health and wellbeing. The nature of many of the subjects that are taught in PDHPE can promote healthy lifestyles and safe living. I have also learnt that there are a large amount of resources available to me, that I can incorporate into a lesson, or that I can use when a difficult question may be asked. 2) The learning activities related back to unit content in a way that allowed me to visualise myself teaching the subject matter myself. The learning outcomes were often hands on, such as reviewing materials that we can actually use in the classroom, and discussing their strengths and weaknesses with others. 3) I have discovered that I was not alone with my thoughts on teaching a subject such as sexuality and the human body, especially with students from the opposite gender. After this semester, I am much more comfortable with both the resources that are available to me, as well as how I can go about teaching the subject matter. My next steps will be to develop my knowledge of much of the subject matter, whilst also working on my preparation skills to enable myself to effectively teach a lesson, no matter what the subject is.
