Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk
1. General
1.1 For ships, which are constructed and equipped for
the carriage of dangerous chemicals in bulk, the
requirements of Section 1-22 as well as Section 24 and,
in addition, the requirements of Rules for Ships Carrying
Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk, Volume X, apply.
1.2 For machinery and electrical plant see Volumes III,
IV and X.
1.3 The Rules mentioned in 1.1 and 1.2 above are
applicable for the carriage of dangerous chemicals having
a vapour pressure not exceeding 2,8 bar (absolute) at a
temperature of 37,8 C.
1.4 The requirements of Volume X incorporate the
requirements of the "International Code for the Construction
and Equipment of Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals
in Bulk" (IMO-IBC-Code).
2. Character of classification, entries into the class
certificate
Ships complying with the requirements of Volumes I-VIII
and X will have the notation "Chemical Tanker" affixed
to the character of classification.
Chemical Tankers complying with the requirements for
Survival Capability (Floatability in damaged condition)
of the Code will have the distinguishing mark inserted
before the character of classification and after the character
of classification the relevant ship type notation (Type 1,
2 or 3). The following entry will be made in the
Certificate :
"Damage Stability Calculations as per IBC - Code for
draughts T up to ..........m".
Type 3 ships with lengths below 125 m will have the
distinguishing mark assigned only, if also the ability
to survive flooding of the machinery space is proved.
For chemical tankers a list stating the chemicals permitted
to be carried will be issued as an appendix to the Certificate
of Classification.

Ships, for which BKI issues the Certificate of Fitness for the
carriage of Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk" do not have this list
annexed, as it forms part of the Certificate of Fitness.
