This course provides students the opportunity to integrate theory into practice ithin the
clinical setting! The focus is on the develop"ent of diagnostic# therapeutic# ethical and
cultural $udg"ents ith the perioperative patient! Students progress fro" the care of
healthy patients undergoing "ini"ally invasive surgical procedures to the "ore co"ple%
patient ith "ultiple health issues! The student begins to develop an advanced practice
nursing role that integrates role theory# nursing theory# and research &noledge through
ee&ly se"inars! Scope of practice# role develop"ent and nursing interventions ill be
introduced and e%plored in the classroo"# and principles ill be applied in the clinical

This course is the beginning clinical e%perience for the novice nurse anesthesia student!
'lective procedures on adult patients of (S( Physical Status ) and )) are pri"arily
selected! Clinical preceptors are e%perienced C*N(s or anesthesiologists ho act as

as they integrate theory into practice and assu"e "ore of the role of the advanced
practice nurse! Patient assess"ents apply a consideration for the develop"ental# cultural#

successfully discuss the "anage"ent of a patient! )n addition# the oral e%a" is designed
to test the S*N(Es $udg"ent# application of &noledge# clarity of e%pression# and

practice of anesthesia! Finally# in order to be successful# the S*N(Es "ust be able to
