Sorenson VRSII School-to-Work Program (June-August 2014)

12 week intensive professional development program that provides additional training, both one-on-one and
in group, mentoring and professional internships in the deaf community of Salt Lake City.

Douglas College Program of Sign Language Interpretation (Sept.2011-June 2013)

Two year diploma program that fully prepares one to enter the field of Sign Language Interpretation. I am
confident in my skill set and able to interpret for meaning, communicate bilingually, and act ethically and
biculturally in my practice.

Vancouver Community College - ASL and Deaf Studies (Sept.2010-June 2011)

Ten-month certificate program that focuses on basic ASL skills, Deaf culture and becoming an ally to the
Deaf community.

Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy - Spa Practitioner (Jan.2008-Aug.2009)

Seven month certificate program that focuses on becoming familiar with the musculoskeletal system,
anatomy and physiology of the body, massage techniques, and a variety of spa treatments.


Work Experience

Providing friendly, quality service in casual and fine-dining restaurants in the lower mainland and the Okanagan.

AppleTree Childcare (2013)
Working both one on one and in a group with pre-school aged children with a variety of developmental disabilities.

Volunteer Experience

Practicum (January-May 2013)
Over 350 hours of interpreting experience in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Rochester, New York and Austin, Texas.
During these practicums I worked in various settings: pre-school, elementary, middle and high school, post-
secondary school, workshops, religious, platform and community. During my practicum placement's I experienced
working with a wide range of people, communicating styles and group sizes - one on one to large audiences.

Volunteer Interpreting (February 2012-June 2014)
Volunteer interpreting experience in a variety of settings such as an ongoing weekly volunteer position in the religious
setting since Sept. 2013, as well as educational and recreational; ranging from one on one to small and large groups.
These settings include a wide range of age groups and language styles.

The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. - Deaf-Blind Retreat (August 2012/2013)
Volunteered as a support service provider with deaf-blind campers matching a variety of communication methods
such as close-vision, oral, ASL and tactile ASL. I attended a Pro-Tactile Workshop to further my knowledge on
communication skills with deaf-blind individuals.
